I had to Google it to find out what it is - a tent on top of a vehicle!

I saw one on top of the MINI Countryman in one of their showrooms back in 2017.

The concept is good, however, it is just for sleeping, and it involves climbing up a ladder, which may not suit some people.

And it was very expensive for what it was worth!

I went camping recently and a couple had one of these things, with a kind of tarp out of the back of their vehicle under which they cooked and ate. A bed up a ladder with my ageing bladder is not my idea of fun, I have to say, but it might suit some people very nicely!

A tent box is what they put old campers in if they think they are dead...a bit like a coffin but made of polyester and designed to create condensation if the body is still breathing.

I have to admit, Mucker1884, I almost composed a limerick... but resisted the temptation! So far...

Oh, go on then...

A nervous old lady from Hedon
Bought a tent box to put her airbed on
But a bed up a ladder
with her dodgy bladder
Left poor knees and ankles quite leaden.

I'll get me coat...

Love my tent box - I have one of the older models - good for 2 people. I use mine mainly on my own when working - has stood up to some good weather too!

All the best...

Just had ten nights in rooftop tent, fantastic, so warm off the ground.
Some have awning but are more for higher roof cars/vans. we just have a standard car and awning a bit slack but ideal for storage and shelter
IT IS JUST A TENT, NO EATING/COOKING/WASHING/STANDING UP SPACE, its a bed to sleep read or God forbid, talk etc (think small 3 man tent).
Fast to put up, fast to put down, always on the car in season,
Going for a nice long drive, picnic BBQ don't want to go home? flip the tent up, Great!!!

im curious, mainly because of the weight limit most car roofs actually have s to how on earth the likes of a mini, or even the last pic of the zafira can have the weight of the roof box nevermind any bodies in it, both having a max load of 75kgs on the roof

Do they come with safety harness for when you have had one over the eight?

I guess these are intended for folks who camp where there are lions and tigers on the loose at night.

You can get inflatable emergency exit slides, and stairlifts.
They also do wheelchair ramps, but to keep the ramps shallow enough to use, the pitch need to be between 30 to 40 metres long, depending on vehicle height.

It's true, I tell thee!

my thoughts exactly l have a large BMW car and that has fixpoint roof mountings and they have a 75kg limit so minus the weight of the roof tent and i will need to loose a couple of kgs before i can sleep on the roof of my car
