The Karsten new is like a three grand tent isnt it? I'd expect it to survive the huffing and puffing fox and the three little pigs to move in at that price :-)

Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes

New! Please upload a photo of your tent to the Tent Showcase!

2.6k, so no it's not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but some of the airbeams these days are very similar prices, and with us deciding to pay that amount of money for a tent, we definitely knew what sort of brand we'd rather be spending it with.

I'm not sure I'd spend that amount of money on an airbeam but when it's just the two of us a steel poled Karsten would be in the "frame". Does it come with a free butler and au pair? ;-)

Definitely not toy balloons, and definitely not 200ft long either, the balloons were taking off in the next field! I think the tent set up with the tarp and windbreak was about 10m

Speaking to a helpful man at Norwich Camping - he tells me there is a steel shortage which is contributing to the lack of steel poled tents. that and the increasing popularity of air tents. The usual suspect manufacturers are now going air and fibre pole only - Outwell used to be a dead cert for a steel tent, but sadly no more. Vango and Kampa now don't seem to be steel either. But for all the afore-mentioned gale blowing reasons I want to go steel (air if I absolutely have to).
Sadly I can't afford a Karsten. And if I could I have to factor in my small car and the need to pitch solo. This has led me to search for a medium sized steel pole tent with a decent pack size or an air tent. I don't take a ton of other stuff with me these days so if the tent takes up a bit more room I can probably suffer that.
So for the time being I've gone second hand to get me through the rest of the season and to give me time to wait for new stock to arrive in the vague hope that the perfect tent will drop in.
Just off to practice pitch the Outwell now, happy days

Apologies for somewhat hijacking your thread, it's a very new tent so I'm very much still in the excitable stage!

Good luck with your test pitching, although I'm sure you won't need it - and maybe next year there will be more camping shows, etc and more steel poled tents for you to look at

For steel poled tents on your "ideal" search, have a look at some of the Dutch sites - this one for example https://www.outdoorxl.co.uk/tents/all-tents.html?ranker_tentstokken=19713 lets you search on steel poled only. There is also Obelink. Both of these sites have GBP prices so while shipping may take longer, you shouldn't need to worry about any import tax.

Thanks Novicemummy! Just been down the rabbit hole of the outdoorxl site - so many lovely tents. I'd love to visit the store. Sadly only a few with steel poles and all way too big for me on my own. I think my needs are particularly niche tbh.

Take a look at the Obelink Porto Ercole. Good price and looks easily as good as any Outwell or Vango steel pole tents of the past.

Obelink aren't currently delivering to the UK. (I emailed and asked when we couldn't complete a transaction a couple of weeks ago). So it's a trip to Holland if you want one of their tents at the moment.

It's a really good looking tent and ticks almost all of my wishlist boxes. A bit big for me on my own maybe.
It has 22mm aluminium poles - I know nothing about these compared to steel - any thoughts?

Hmm, might not be such a bad idea...
