Currently have a Wynnster Pegasus 6 withou the SIG and after a weeks camp I am looking to upgrade to the Wynnster Phoenix 6 WITH SIG !
SIG will hopefully stop some very large beetles getting in
other benefits we found of a seperate ground sheet
1) wild flowers around the edge of your tent
2) when sweeping out grass/dirt that has been trampled in you can sweep it off the edge of the ground sheet no problems - a SIG you need to pick it up and out of the tent with a dust pan or something.
3) wind blows into tent for ventilation easier, especially in high winds like we had last week during half term....
definitely want a SIG now !!!!
------------- Have tent - will travel !
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
hi,i would defo have a SIG,because we had a Vango Colorado 600 dlx with a 'bath tub' ground sheet,by the time we got the ground sheet up,the tent was full of bugs and if the tent is not 'square' then the ground sheet won't fit properly.
A SIG is an absolute must have. Keeps out water ingress and the local bugs. You can sleep safe in your sleeping bag, knowing that unless there is a tidal wave you should remain quite dry
We have a sig in the bedrooms & main living area and a bath tub ground sheet in the kitchen / eating area. Which is perfect..........carpet in the living area so all cosy, warm, no beasties or creepy crawleys.
Plus our tent is a pitch outer first or all-in-one (if you leave the bedroom pods in it) which is perfect for pitching in bad weather.
We do like that the kitchen area only has a bath tub ground sheet as this section can be closed off to the section that has a sig and it means we can throw it in the washing machine / take it out to clean as this is the area to get spillages on what with the children. *rolls eyes*
A friend of ours had an unwelcomed grass snake in their non sig tent last year and that just makes my skin crawl. I like to know that I can get out of bed at night & go to the toilet (situated in our wardrobe section, lol) without treading on or meeting grass snakes, rats, mice etc! Ewwwwww
So sig definately required by us for cosier camping.
For me I wish more tent makers would opt for Zip in groundsheets - these can be cleaned seperately form the main flysheet and offer the same protection agaisnt the ellements - rain bugs ect
We love our ZIG (zip in groundsheet) and can't imagine being without. Best of both worlds. Finding it hard to find a weekend tent as we dont want to have to make SIG or not decision!
Just bought a Hi Gear Kalihari 8 SIG tunnel all in one fantastic just put it up in my back garden on my own so all in all great. As for the ground sheet tents I went camping about eight weeks ago with my family two kids aged 3 and 5 plus partner, the sleeping area was SIG but the front area was a peg down groundsheet. Woke up the first morning with a stream going through the tent drenching our bags and clothes. A big learning curve for a newb like me.................lived and learn
I've always had non sig tents till last year when I bought my Kura 600. Wouldn't bother having one again, now looking for another tent without a sig but they're getting few and far between these days.
With a SIG it's really difficult to clean the groundsheet, I can usually just take the groundsheet to the hose pipe and blast it till the mud comes off, can't do that with a sig and with the weather we had last summer believe me after a week in a mud bath it really needed some serious cleaning! Spent ages on my hands and knees on Friday last week washing the floor before we packed up on Saturday, after just 4 days camping in wet weather and no before you say it taking off shoes at the door doesn't work, just end up with socks covered in mud and the dog gets it filthy anyway!
Definitely SIG - bought a SIG tent this year and began to wonder why we spent 2 years in a non SIG. Bought footprint groundsheet and carpet with new tent at same time so no need to clean SIG at all and stay lovely and warm with no draughts!
lol always knew i was an anomoly. i much prefer having grass in the living area (with the option of a groundsheet if the weather's really grim) - never needs cleaning or sweeping :)
