When we were in France the Dutch only seemed to have 2 kinds of tent, De Waard or huge humungus - really really huge that is - trailer tents! They made our trailer tents look positively tiny in comparison, they even had fully fitted out kitchens in the ones we saw!! They had big transit type vans to pull them with too.

Hi georgese5
Nice looking tent, would you mind me asking how much you paid for it, and how long it takes to put up?

There three of those brand of tents:
De Waard tenten
Randstad tenten
Karsten tenten.
The first two are similar and in fact have the same origin. I understand it is a matter if inheritance quarrel.
Anyway, bot are pirmaid tents, very sturdy, strom proof, sewn in groundsheet etc.
Cloth used equally heavy, but de Waard used a rougher type of thread, while Randstad uses a very fine, more dense type.
Groundpatter of De Waard is more rounded at the back which costst sleeping lenght (I measure 6'8"). Randstad is a bit more rectangular and just cits the corners at the back, but give more sleeping length, henc my than choice for Randstad. Moreover the standard 'canopy'part measures just 1 mtr for De Waard, but 1.5 mtr for Randstad. That was another point.
They last equally long. it is just a matter of preference. Expensive but value for money. Mine stood through all kinds of rough weather.
These tents cannot be compared with other pyramid shaped tents.
And not just a bit non-comparable, but really not at all; they are a class of their own. It shows in all details and especially when on site: the way they look and handle wind and rain.
Karsten. Mine is the 325. Iglo-shaped. Inflatable by foorpump or compressor (car cirgarette lighter). Equally sturdy as Randstad and karsten, but no poles. Poles are neoprene inflatable, pumped up to 2.5 to 4 Bar. Storm proof. Same sturdy cloth, sewn in groundsheet etc, but square grpoundpattern. Very expensive but again value for money. Very good ventilation system. Was mine (still is) after the Randstad tent, and also has had some rough weather already. Now have a caravan since 1.5 years, so it's resting on top of a closet.

OH Cabanon, Cabanon, why are these tents so damn sexy huh? I really, really like them and if space and weight wasn't an issue would have one. We might change teh car later this year so if we do it would be nice to have one then.

Hi all, as you may know if you've seen previous posts of mine, we are the proud owners of a De Waard Albatross Junior, some of you may have seen us at the UKCS national meet at Lickhill Manor.
You can't buy De Waard tents over here, you have to order them and then go to Holland to collect them. Yes they're expensive, but worth every penny, and you get everything you need, so you don't have to buy extras like windbreaks, kitchen tents, gazebo's etc.
One of these days I'll get round to sorting out a picture to go on my profile, in the meantime you'll have to make do with my two beautiful cats.

One site a little closer to home is the Relum website, their website shows a tent called Noord Holland. The picture is on the following URL link.
