From looking at toine1962's link I could get a Randstad Jupiter for not much more than the Esvo Snoek, would this be a better buy do you think?
yes. I do.

Hi Liddenham,
As I said, the model we bought is the Lepelaar, we also bought the inner tent (binnentent); this is not strictly necessary as inner curtains come with it, but I do like to be warm and snug. We also bought 2 windshields (windscherms) and the varioluifel (variable awning) and a triangular storage thing. The whole lot came to 2,812 euros. A carpet for the living areas was thrown in for free. We paid in euros cash because we were advised that any card tranaction would have quite a hefty fee attached. Don't know when the next exhibition is to be held. I would e-mail one of their shops and ask. De Waard were very good at replying in English. We are going to Sutherland, Scotland to try it out over the half term holiday.
I hope you will soon be able to post some outfit pics in your profile, bowerbird?

At the moment I do not own the Randstad Bever anymore. It has crossed the English Channel and now resides in Cambridge.
If I would have to buy anather tent, it certainly would be a Randstad again.
I'm not sure if I would go for the Jupiter though.
If you don't need a tent for 5 or 6 persons, I would buy the UniVerse instead.
When we bought the tent we hesitated a long time whether we should buy the 4-persons Bunzing (=Polecat) or the 6 persons Bever (=Beaver). Since the price difference is not that big, the "bigger is better" idea won.
Later I discovered I was wrong about that. The Bever needs a space of 7x5 metres for the tent itself, which in some countries (i.e. Italy) makes it hard to find a spot at all. Also expect remarks from other campers. ("Did you see that, circus is in town")
Apart from that, you have to carry extra weight and it takes longer to put the tent up. If you are planning to stay a week at the same spot, that's no problem, but you'll think twice about staying on a campsite for just one night.
For this reason we bought two small Nomad dome tents as well. They are terrible to stay in, but it saved us a lot of time. Mind that with three tents and all the other equipment, a bagage trailer is a necessity.

Thought I'd tag onto this thread. My first post!!!!
I'm soon to be receiving a 'De Waard Albatros' from Holland.
I had seen these whilst camper vanning (is that the right word?) around France and now we've sold our van decided it was the tent for us.
I searched on www.marktplaats.nl and found loads on there. Then having seen this thread and found Rolph's web-site
www.dewaardforum.nl, I was lucky to find one of the members selling their tent (JanH).
They are a really friendly, helpful bunch. I speak no Dutch at all, but using English, and some of the hilarious (so I'm told) translations that you get from http://babelfish.altavista.com/, I've purchased this one second hand, very happily. Although I haven't seen it, I'm not at all worried as I've been sent a number of pictures, had reassurances that it's a great tent from others and they're even in the process of sorting out getting the manual translated into English for me. They seem as happy as I do that an Englishman is interested in what seems to be a wholly Dutch set-up!
Anyone on here (Tessa, bowerbird, Cornerhouse or others), that has any tips for me regarding using the tent over here. (Fending off other jealous campers?) I'd be happy to listen.
Thanks to the De Waard forum guys and gals, especially JanH and Rolph!!
Al.

Wouldn't it be good if a couple of UK shops started to stock a wider range of tents, or at least became agents for them. At the moment if you don't want plastic, the options are very limited.

Frankly I haven't got a clue as these things are typically 'De Waard'. Randstad and Karsten do not have them, even while Randstad is extremely similar. The grey objects bottom-left clearly are destined as a base for poles, the 'inside' poles. I don't understand the black obejects and 'string'. Randstad does not have them, in spite of the very related model (same origin, the father of the two brothers, literally) but I suspect these things should be applied at the top of certain poles (tiny hole, too small as basis for poles, two can only serve the door poles or the two outside awning poles.). Randstad has a simpler type of caps on top of poles, mostly to prevent even the last drip of rain comimg through the very tip of the pole, which won't harm anyway, hence might as well be left away.
Well looking a bit better the grey ones for me probably should be put beneath the two front door poles and centre pole (three poles, two awning poles free on the ground), the two black have a 'gound' function, but I don't know which De Waard`poles have a base that narrow, maybe the two outside poles. Rolph should know. The 'string' object seems to have something to do with the top of the central pole ('one' can only relate to the central pole, the others are always pairs of two), but I don't understand as 'Randstad' had a simple plastic cap on that pole. Actually it seem to relate to some inner tent thingy in the sleeping accommodation. However these are absent in the basic models, but maybe De Waard`has some type of optional 'inner' tent. If Rolph does not react, you should FAO him. I did not have that, therefore I only recognize the caps serving as a foundation for poles.
Maybe this is why I favour brother Randstad: just a bit more simple and functional (incl, or rather especially for people of my height).
