I know a lot of people come up to the west coast in September so it might help to be aware that the A82 between Crianlarich and Tarbet (i.e. the northern Loch Lomondside section) is being closed for re-surfacing every night (excluding Friday and Saturday nights) between 9pm and 6am from tomorrow night, 2nd September. The detour, via Arrochar, Inverary, Dalmally to Tyndrum northbound, reverse southbound, is 55 miles. Worth knowing if you're heading for an early ferry.

No problems, glad to be of help. It's worth checking Traffic Scotland just before leaving (although they're notorious for sometimes missing out info on the A82 on smaller roadworks!). The alternative, as you probably know, is Stirling - Callander - Lochearnhead - Lix Toll - Crianlarich. Keep alert for deer - they're starting to come down from the hills and have a great time!

Still vastly improved since the Pulpit Rock cantilevered "bypass" was completed.
But thanks for the warning, I'd forgotten about those works.

FionaW, I hope you'll agree with me disagreeing with you but use this road both ways regularly and was never severely held up by the Pulpit Rock lights.

Not a specific response to FionaW, generally, to me and many, both locals and regular long distance drivers, the bends are much worse, coupled with the stupidity of some drivers who can see a coach or artic coming towards them on the wrong side of the road round those bends who don't slow down, or even stop if necessary to give them the space to manoeuvre round the bend.

As for the narrow bridges, a lot of people can't seem to work out closing speeds. This is also true further up the A82 with the Rannoch moor bridges - the number of door mirrors lying either side of these is unbelievable.

I suspect many will not get the Press & Journal newspaper, but the article below has some sobering statistics regarding RTCs and that's only Bridge of Orchy northbound on A82 and none of the fatalities and road closures further south on the A82.

Ok, omit my "vastly". I over-reacted because I'm so glad that they didn't just dump loads of rock into the loch to sort the situation.
I agree that it remains a too-narrow too-bendy too-dangerous road that's not fit for purpose north of Tarbet. It's an old road that can't cope with modern traffic.

The standard of driving on the A82 is awful. I think a lot of drivers are too busy gazing at the scenery to be aware of corners and other road users.

No worries, FionaW, I'm glad they used pilings, too. Don't know why (except money) it took them so long, after all the road is built out on pilings between Cruachan and the Pass of Brander.
