In this month's magazine, oh dear. I wonder how many more and how many CLs before this is over?

I hadn't spotted that. Not surprised - outgoings continue (maintenance, maybe the boiler needs repair, 3rd party liability insurance etc etc) with no income. I read the sale particulars for a house with a CS in the grounds, and it only brought in 2K a year. The sellers said they only kept it going because they enjoyed meeting people.
Hopefully these CSs will come back next year, but it's a reminder to not assume a place will be open after all this & just turn up.

30 CAMC cl's closed too

You never get to know the reasons why. It would be good to know.

It would also be good to know what either club is doing to promote signing up new cl's. After all the tourism industry is forecasting a staycation so they need to take advantage of that. Caravan/motorhome sales are expected to rise too

Sorry to come across Negative around this.
But!!!
Most CL's and CS are in a field with no toilets etc, or just a toilet and shower.
So why are they going bust?

Council / Business rates, and tax paid, buy us the tax payer.
Due because of Covid 19.
If they have Electric, that's is not in use either.
Grass cutting and a coat of paint, for ground maintenance, to keep site up to date.

If they relay solely a 5 van CL, Or even more on a CS to survive then, i am surprised that they ever in business in the first place.

Because taking only 2k a year, as stated above, does not cover any overheads at all.

A CL, or CS is a more a labour of love, by like minded people, not a business to make profit am afraid.

Agreed these small sites, a labour of love, how many have suffered or are worried about getting grief from their patrons. The me me me attitude is now rife.

Would you trust strangers to behave, what would you do if they become sick,
do you want to clean up after them. Are they bringing anything with them.

Any that close should be welcomed back when the time is right.

I hope that they will return.

Ray

Just to put some figures into your thoughts. There are/were 2167 cl's with CAMC. 1791 have ehu, 913 with wc's and 595 have showers. Hard standings are unknown. All these involve a significant outlay to the owner. Some are as low as 10 per night some at 25 so there is a lot of variables in working out expense versus income.

Nowhere does it say any have gone bust as you put it. There will be more attached to going bankrupt than the running costs of a cl which is probably no more than a sideline.

There are several reasons for the closure of a cl other than that above. Some reasons could be, retirement, illness, change of landowner, break the terms of the licence or just not viable, in other words lack of use. That is down to the people who are in a position to use them I'm afraid. Unfortunately the last few months that will have had an adverse effect.

The age old cliche, Use it or Lose it. Give cl's your support. Their survival may depend on it

From an above post "hardstandings are unknown"? they're not, we have used them many times on small sites.

More than likely these CLs have closed due to the fear that people using the CL could pass on Covid-19 to the owner of the CL and their family.
Plus it means that they have to constantly sanitise the taps etc. and if any one using the CL gets infected by Covid-19 they may sue the owner of the CL. More than likely the CL owner's insurance excludes Covid-19 so very worrying for any owner of a CL as such an action could bankrupt them even if they win.

Hundreds of thousands have had the infection, ask any one of them where they caught and they couldn't tell you. They may think they know but can't be 100% sure so I don't think a cl could be sued.
A few years ago CAMC used to list cl closures with the reason why. I don't know why they stopped giving a reason. It would be interesting to know re the 30 recent closures. It will also be interesting to see what the number is in next months magazine.

We've never encountered anti-social behaviour on a 5 van site. This usually comes from either younger folk in tents, or large family groups. Neither suited to a tap and a plug in a field.

Nor can i see why a 'field' could 'go bust/close down'?

some close some decide to go their own way on certification and some go with other clubs/business running their own certificates and some get their certification taken away.

Watching the monthly opening and closings I dont think that figure is that unusual
