Have been thinking of going to N Ireland for sometime, and because of Brexit we don't know if the Pet Passport system as we know it will be valid. So instead of France/Spain and maybe having trouble bringing the dogs back in, I'd like advice on N.Ireland.
Vague plan is Cairnryan to Belfast and site near Strangford Lough for ? week, and then coastal road to Newcastle. It will be 2 adults 2 dogs and 4 berth caravan. Is the ferry expensive? seems that sailings on Tues Thurs are cheaper. Are the roads adequate for towing a 4 berth (not like Cornwall/Devon)? as a passenger I like to be able to see round corners! We have taken a dog to Enniskillen, and again to Kinsale, but didn't find either area that dog friendly, but Enniskillen was the friendliest. Any suggestions welcome.
PS Where has Stranraer gone?

Cairnryan to Larne, Stranraer to Belfast. There is a nice site just north of Larne if you don't want to go far when you arrive and a CS type site, Hillview at Dungiven. Plenty of sites all around the coast. Roads are ok, but when we were there last year there were a lot of roadworks.

Check out the national trust campsite at castleward. Gorgeous area on strangford Lough, easy location with dogs. Or alternatively head north from Belfast, plenty of sites along the causeway coast.

I am from Northern Ireland but now live in England so when I go back, it tends to be without the caravan as we stay with family. However, friends of ours rave about the Tollymore Forest Park Caravan Site. If I had two weeks I would be tempted to spend one on the North Coast and one down around the Mourne Mountains area which were my two favourite places for day trips when I still lived over there. Friends also stay at the Drumaheglis Marina Caravan Site which is close enough to the North Coast but not right on it.

Stena built a new berth immediately north of Cairnryan, and moved out of Stranraer a few years ago.
I live in N.I., and our favourite site by far is Ballyness in Bushmills. It's an extremely well run site, immaculate, and close to the Giant's Causeway and the north coast attractions.
Roads are all good, so no need to worry about towing a caravan.
Ferry prices however are a bit eye-watering, and I can imagine would tend to put some people off using the route. For anyone travelling Cairnryan to Larne, there is a very handy site in Larne, about 250yds from getting off the boat, and very convenient for visiting the Antrim Coast coastal route, leading up to Portrush and Portstewart.
Tollymore Forest Park near Newcastle in Co.Down is very popular for those who like plenty of forest trails, but unfortunately, their toilet facilities leave a lot to be desired, and in fact, put us off going for the last twelve years or so.
