I'm pausing from sending emails and ringing campsites to ask here if anyone knows of a campsite in north yorks available for the coming Saturday and Sunday, preferably within walking distance of pubs and maybe restaurants (not keen on middle of nowhere). I'm getting depressed by all the rejections ;-) Worth a try anyway.

Hi Marlowe,

Unfortunately due to the school holidays having just started, and a lot of factories being on their annual 2 week shutdown, most campsites are pretty full at the moment.

I can only suggest that you continue phoning sites until you get a successful result.

Best of luck and sorry I cant be more helpful.

There's a campsite in north yorkshire that say they always have space coz they have extra farm fields too. There's a pub about 2 miles walk...not too far? I've heard it's lovely and is by a river: Keld, Swaledale Phone: 01748 886274 or email: babrarukin at ukonline.co.uk

Here's their website: http://www.rukins-keld.co.uk/index.htm

Cheers - Tanjarine

Thanks for the suggestions. We've managed to book the last pitch at Cawood Holiday Park near York for Saturday night. There was only a ehu place left and it's costing us 18! A bit steep, but we were intending paying for two nights somewhere and leaving Sunday evening so we've probably saved money really. It must be good at that price anyway! The reviews are all good. Also, the east side is supposedly getting the rain last on sat night.

That is about 3 miles from where I live! We are going near Whitby though this weekend.

I think you will be fine in cawood, lots of places are within easy travelling distance. For instance Harewood House, Lotherton Hall (bird garden & new adventure playground)near to York for sightseeing & shopping, just as close to leeds & Harrogate isn't far.
Also Xscape which has an inddor ski centre is just doen the A1/M62 about 15mins away. Just in case you were looking for things to do!
Have a great weekend

Hi Rosie, oddly enough we'd be living in Whitby now if our house sale hadn't fallen through last year! We could have house swapped instead ;-) We're not far away from the places you mention anyway, about an hour. We're looking to park the car tomorrow at one in the afternoon and not get in it again until we're booted out of the campsite 23 hours later. We're hoping to go into Cawood in the evening. There are a few pubs I believe. Do you know if they are child friendly? Beer garden? If the rain holds off. What about food?

thanks
Marlowe
