Hi, does anyone know of any lesbian friendly campsites in the uk? apart from the one in Helston, Cornwall. Quite fancy going to Brighton, Bath, Lake District, But anywhere really!

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

Can only be people's attitudes I suppose. Where me and lynnb go along Hadrians Wall ( 3 sites ) their are loads of same sex couples. Don't think anybodies bothered to tell you the truth. If you like walking and fantastic scenery get yourselves upthere.

Hi fp22

Welcome to UKCS

Me and my partner Maggie have been camping together for 10 years and not come across any kind of unfriendly behaviour. Campers are pretty much a live and let live breed and its more important to them that you are a responsible, well behaved camper.

Seen loads of same sex couples on campsites all over the country and europe and never given it a second thought. I would have thought any campsite would have the same attitude.

We have seen loads of same sex couples , especially on the adults only sites, dunno why that is , maybe they feel more comfortable there or just want peace and quiet like the rest of us.I don't think many people care about sexual orientation these days all they want is considerate people camping near them.

After saying that we did see two girls pitch up one night and be told to move on the next day, couldn't see any reason for it at all somaybe that site was a bit prejidice, who knows

I do ask myself....how would they even know you`re a lesbian couple? When I go to various events round the country I often camp with a female friend of mine and never thought twice about it, or that anyone would assume we`re lesbians just because we`re together. It so happens we`re not lesbians, but I`d be appalled  if anyone treated any same-sex couple with prejidice on a campsite, or indeed anywhere else.

Unless somebody made it blatanly obvious that they were a same sex couple I don't think that anybody would notice.   When we were away a couple of weeks ago, there were two women in the tent opposite us - didn't even question there sexuality.  They may have been a couple, or just two friends camping together - I didn't care.   They were good enough to pick my son up, and bring him over to me when he fell off his scooter.   The said hello to people - what went on in the privacy of their tent was their business.

Hi fp22, have a look at www.kampwomen.com there are suggested sites on there.

Generally it's not the campers that have a problem - we (they) are a friendly bunch it's the camp site owners (a few not all !!) who sadly stick to that 'no single sex' rule. Some use it to deter big groups of lads etc etc but some use it as a 'get out' to discriminate. There have been discussions on here before about people being turned away coz of who they are with etc. I've not actually been affected myself but I know of others who have.

Specifically I can recommend the following friendly sites Castlerigg Farm in Keswick, the Croft in Hawkshead, Knights near Settle North Yorkshire.

Anyway have fun wherever you end up !

I cannot see any site objecting as long as you are willing to explain your way around the single sex rule.

Hi fp22,

Welcome to UKCS,

I can`t imagine why anyone would discriminate against lesbians.

I`ve often seen 2 lads sharing a tent at Old Oaks, whether they`re just friends or partners I don`t know but I do know you`ll be very welcome there , it`s handy for Bath and a fabulous site. Hey I`m going to start charging them commision at this rate!

They are adults only though.

Because sites have a no single sex rule to stop groups of roudy youngsters spoilimg it for everyone else.  The site owners would probably be ok with it if it was explained to them that they were acouple.

Scarletsfan - The word probably in your last post says it all ! Yes they probably would be ok (however they might not), but my point is straight couples don't have to explain their personal situations so why should gay couples. You ring up to book a relaxing camping break and find yourself explaining your sexuality to a complete stranger - I think not ! For that matter this includes all sorts a folks gay, straight, martian, green with pink spots - I've read posts from fathers and sons, mothers and daughters etc. who find themselves explaining their life stories to small minded camp site owners.
