I forgot a trowel for digging a poop hole and tissues or toilet paper. Also hand sanitiser. Spare batteries if needed and maybe a pair of crocs or sandals for camp.

Thanks for listing a paper map, though itís surprising how many people canít read one. The map on the phone wonít work if you lose the mobile signal (sure, you can download OS maps but I know someone who relied on a signal & went off the planned route without it) or the battery needs recharging because youíve taken so many photos.
Iíd have to add a notebook (diary) as my brainís a sieve for remembering.

I'm a bit old school and, yeah, a paper map doesn't need batteries. I don't use the phone for navigation. I usually have it on flight mode and only use it as a camera. It will last a few days on that. I do use a garmin etrex but it uses 2 AA batteries which last a week of daily use. I like it as it records my tracks and it is handy but the map and compass is always in my 0ackbas a back up.
This trip it was 3 maps as it was on an OS boundary :)

Cached phone maps are a great boon for a quick location fix.   I can now make a phone battery last a week using it as a camera & occasional map use. Airplane mode doesn't impact GPS (on my phone anyway) & I switch off at night on multi-day trips. I always carry paper maps in the form of OS A3 print outs with routes, & alternative routes marked & enough area for drift.

They compliment each other. Paper in case of tech or battery issues.   Phone in case map gets blown away.

I record my tracks on my Garmin Instinct Solar watch.

I must check out those 2 Garmin trackers: thanks for that idea. Iíve use MapMyWalk on the iPhone during lockdown when we were exploring locally but deleted it as it used a lot of battery power.
