Hi there.
Is it possible to improve the campsite search facility? I have found that unless one knows the exact name of a campsite, then it can be impossible to find. For example, many begin (or don't begin) "Camping" or might be called St something (or is it Saint). Same with place names.

Most of my reviews are of French sites, but I have put this in the general section, as I assume that the same search facility applies across the board.

Jo

Try the town...if you know it. It narrows it down a bit. Also, if you know the area the site is in - Norfolk/Vendee etc., you can use the map search which will show all the sites in the area.

Remembering, not EVERY site is listed on this site search engine. You could also try the ACSI app.

I take your point. However (especially on the continent) the nearest town may not be where the site is. It could be in an outlying village - e.g. Lac d'Orient, which is not in Troyes, but pretty close to it. Also, although we mostly use ACSI sites these days, many are still outside the scheme. Yes, there are ways of finding a specific site, but with a site search facility on UKCS it would be helpful if there was a little more flexibility.

If you don't know the name of the site you are looking for then the only alternative is to search the area via the map as suggested. I can't think of any way other than to have every site listed in alphabetical order and then you search on 'S' for Saint for example, but as you say, there could be thousands of campsites beginning with 'S'.

Do you have a suggestion how it could be done better than it is now?

You could try via the Camp Site Search...

Then click Option 2, which will bring up a map.
Using scroll and zoom in/out, if need be, click your focal point on the map. Using your example, I first (double) clicked on Troyes...

From there, further scrolling and zooming found Lac d'Orient (In this case, with the very quick help of Google Maps, to make sure I had the right Lac, seeing as the Lac itself isn't named on the UKCS map... are you still with me! LOL! )
(Zooming in on the Lac (on the UKCS map) didn't reveal it was the Lac I was looking for, but I'm sure it would if trying to find a specific town, and usually even the quaintest of villages!)

As no filters are ticked down the left hand lists, this should show ALL sites registered to UKCS within 15 miles* of my focal point (The aforementioned Lac, in this case!)
From there, just (single) click on each drop pin until the camp site name rings a bell!

*You can also change the radius of your search around the focal point... bottom left, below the tick-box lists.

And before you ask... it's a lot quicker to do, than to explain!! LOL!

EDIT:
If I have a reasonably good idea of the camp site location, I find the above approach much quicker than trying to remember an exact campsite name (or spelling!)

Just put a bit of the name in , eg for the fictional "Camping St Claire De la Lune" just enter "Claire" in the search

Thank you for picking this up. It must be me then, as I thought that it is what I have done a number of times, but with no success. Sorry for raising what appears to have been a red herring! Note to self - must try harder!

I've just tried it again, using a single word as you suggest and it works! I think that I must have been trying to put in too much of the name previously. Thanks once again.
