Ok, its probably been asked before, but has anyone thought about a scoring system for Campsites on the site?
The benefit, if it could be done, would be that the marks a site recieves could be averaged thus allowing comparison within an area.
I'm sure that contributors would appreciate adding marks either as a single score for a site or perhaps for certain categories (Pitches, Facilities, Surroundinga maybe)

My tuppence worth anyway.

Hi

the problem wtih a scoring system is that someones ides of a site is totally different from someone elses. And if you have a gripe with the owners and the site is a good site you are going to mark them low.

the reviews are good enough for me as they give me information that i need

cheers

steve

Dudleydog - Star ratings simply do not work I am afraid, what is a 5 star site to you because of the swimming pool, kids playarea etc. would only be a 1 star to someone else who does not want all that, so I am afraid that this is something we have thought about but decided against.

Cheers  Ratty

Scoring system would be too subjective.  Better to rely on reviews and also recomendatiosn within campsite forum.  Soembody might give a site 4/10 as its too quiet for them but the same site might get 9/10 for someone after quiet spot to just chill.

Maybe not score the site as a whole, but individual facilites, such as toilets, showers, onsite shop etc.  Things that can be measured.

Make the rating a total overall for each facility not of each individual review.  A lot of work initially I admit but works for other review sites.

Personally I read the reviews first anyway, but if torn between 2 or 3 sites a rating may help decide the choice.

Exactly my point. The differences between raters averages out, but the facilities will be either good or bad.

I totally agree a rating system is too subjective.

Some of the sites I love in the Winter I know I would absolutely hate in the Summer holiday so my rating would vary depending on when I visited.

Not really - If the facilities don't exist then obviously they can't be scored.  However it would be more obvious that those facilities are not available, whereas a reviewer may not mention that fact in the review.

Take showers as an example, the rating could look something like:

Not available  (no stars)

Poor - (1 star)

Average (2 stars)

Excellent (3 stars)

As stated before an overall site rating would be unfair however a rating for the facilities that are available could be useful.

But you will be able to tell from the site listings if they have a shower or not as we have symbols for the sites facilities.

I don't really see how you rate facilities.
I have been to sites where the toilets and showers were brand new but the cleaning of them left a lot to be desired and other with old toilets that were spotless.  I have also been to many sites were the quality of the toilets etc. varied between the tent field and caravan area. How do you rate that?

Surely that is far better put as part of a review.

The fact that sites have these facities is noted on the campsite information anyway.
