I have a variety of air beds, different makes, different sizes...but they don't stay inflated. They do not have punctures and they are inflated properly to begin with!! What's going on?24

Air expands when its heated and shrinks when its cooled so air beds can go softer and harder with temp changes. If they actually deflate then they are leaking either through a puncture or valve

I had quite a few air beds of various styles and fabric. Only one of the plastic air beds and one lilo style (rubber canvas) ever stayed inflated, and they still do. All my air beds have been treated as if made of tissue paper, layed onto a fleece, with another fleece on top, no sharp objects with two hundred yards etc. I still use the small double lilo style one if camping on level ground with my dog, as he likes to lay tight alongside me, and with a camp bed he ends up laying on top of my legs which I can't stand as I can't be restricted. I agree with RTS5 as to the best long term answer, if you have the space.

We've got two red & blue Royal airbeds (rubber) which are about ten years old, and neither of them have ever let us down.

No matter how much money you spend on an air bed, they are all basically the same - a big slab of cold air that can expand and contract due to external temperatures and therefore have the potential to leak and deflate.
I had always been quite lucky with airbeds and found them to be remarkably comfortable until one night at a festival when mine decided to deflate in the early hours resulting in me having to spend 2 nights sleeping on the ground in the middle of a muddy field - NOT a pleasant experience!
On my return, I invested in some camp beds from Towsure - best thing I ever did and no chance of spending the night on the floor!

biggest problem for poeple with airbeds that go down is you blown them up to much. so when you lie on them the air has to go some where with the presure and it causes them to leak a bit or force the seams to rip.. then over time deflate. ive got a old canvas cotton airbed which gets used from march till november every weekend now in its 10th year.lol so i must be doing somthing right.

You could be right Welche2 24  I always inflate our airbed just enough to be able to press my hand on it & just feel the ground, then when the two of us are sleeping on it, it's got just the right amount of air in it to be comfortable & not to force a leak.

From my experience of air beds, it's the newer canvas rubber ones that leak, mine is at least ten years old

And the modern blue flock plastic ones although more flexible when inflated, and so much more comfortable, do tend to suffer with leaks.

When using my lilo styler rubber one, I always use a SIM on top for both warmth and comfort.

we had a cheap and cheerful double inflatable mattress and it had always deflated so you could touch the floor through it, then we got a new one (bit more expensive) and dont have a single problem with that. I think sometimes it can be a case of spending a little more. The new one we have has a good plug that pushes in to prevent air leakage etc and is just much more thicker and good quality. Its this one http://www.grasshopperleisure.co.uk/campingaz-smart-quickbed-double-1448-p.asp

When we camped in tents, we always used a Coleman Comfort airbed, inflated as JK98 mentioned above. Never had a problem with it deflating and it was very comfortable.

Hi there. Me and the wife are quite new to the camping game and the airbed issue is sumthing we hadnt considered until she ended up with the flat side and in a puddle. She blamed me for being so slight but must look into a double skinned for her side!
