Hi folks

I think we are going to switch from formaldehyde based loo products to "organic" tank additive this year.

This is partly motivated by us going to stay part of our summer holiday on a site in France which has a septic tank and formaldehyde based chemicals are not allowed.

Does anyone have any long term experience with products like Elsan Organic? Is it as good as the chemical based products?

Transitioning from f'hyde to organic, is there anything I need to do to prepare either the flush or the tank?

TIA
TC

Have been using Elsan Organic for years and it is great stuff, would not now use anything else. One of the best things about it is none of that nasty smell, oh and being able to use it in both tanks is a bonus.

Nothing required when transitioning.

I find the scent in “Nature Calls” preferable. Like Blueexpo97 we’ve been using organic for ages, and it’s far more pleasant, as well as bio friendly.

An interesting thread includes other alternatives on the CMC site Here

😱😳. I misread that as orgasmic and thought it was a new version of “Nooky in a Tent” which was a popular thread at one time.

Probably just me!

Thanks for the link to that discussion, morepints. Very interesting. It makes me chuckle that these discussions can go on about breaking down matter and the like without using the word poo at all!

I wasn't aware at all about the use of bio-pods....I must be reading the wrong forums....

We bought a bottle of Elsan organic last year when we were going to a festival where they said you could only empty the organic stuff and were really surprised how good it was. We have been using Elsan blue for years but find the green just as good.

Hi the chief
We changed to Elsan Organic 3 years ago due to changing caravan, when we had the Lunar the bed was made up at the front of the van so the washroom was as the far end so didn't notice the smell of the blue stuff, when we changed to the Swift the bed was next to washroom ( wife has a nose like a bloodhound) she could smell the blue, changed to organic problem solved
Hope this helps
Graham

W3 use the thetford green stuff. Prefer the pre dosed satchets, but quite expensive if using long term. Very pleasant smell too.

All good stuff. Thanks folks.

I ordered a couple of bottles of Elsan Organic from Amazon (of all places - was the cheapest I could find online and a fiver a bottle cheaper than my local caravan place); we're using the 'van for the first time this year at Easter and will give it a go then. It sounds like the van loo will be smelling sweet from now on

Just use Aldi or Liddle Bio Tabs, pop one in the tank and all will be dealt with in an appropriate way. It smells good as well. Cheap, light weight and very effective.

Use whatever brand of organic washing machine liquid. One that suits your nose, that's why I go around supermarkets removing tops and sniffing contents. Do get some funny looks but save a load of cash.

We tried the Elsan but found that when emptying the cassette the smell was horrendous so went back tio using the blue tablets from Dometic. We did also try the bio washing tablets and they were even worse than the Elsan organic mind you this was about 3 - 4 years ago.

Lots of choices and opinions. We've got the Elsan Organic now so will give it a go on our trip to the Lakes at Easter.

Queensmessenger - taking the tops off bottles and smelling them? And they haven't barred you out yet?
