...for 16 nights at Camping Devezeau in the Charente. An area we have been saving for some years now as I would like to visit Ordadour-sur-Glane (google it) and only around 90 miles from Bordeaux. Only 21 weeks 'til departure!.

All the reports say what a lovely site it is..... but16 days..... I just hope you won't be bored. It's a very agricutural part of France. A lot of maize and sunflowers.

I doubt 16 days will be enough. I can think of at least 16 interesting day trip excursions within driving distance of the campsite.

I've wanted to go to Ordadour since I read about it around 40 years ago so will finally make it this year. Having done a bit of research, there is a surprising amount to see and do in the area. We will also go to Bordeaux and possibly get an Ibis for 1 or 2 nights.

I went to Oradour a few years ago with Dutch friends. My OH didn't want to go. It is very moving and something I will never forget. Completely understand why OH didn't come too, though.

Ordadour-sur-Glane is also on my must see list after reading The Silent Hours by Cesca Major which is a novel about several characters whose lives are connected by the tragic events there.

For Bordeaux the Ibis Meriadeck is fine, the tram is just yards away and you can park in their car park down the side street. The Old Town, which is easily walkable, is fantastic for bars and restaurants, we were there just before Xmas for a rugby match, Exeter Chiefs, and had a great time.

Have fun. 😀👍

We overnighted at Devezeau the other year, really lovely little site. Bit like a well appointed CL (few more pitches I know but very compact still)

Enjoy!

Memories, not been there. Saving UK sites for the time I'm too old and knackered to do the distances to Europe....or if Brexit makes it too much hassle!

We've stayed there three times .... a few years ago, before a lot of the refurbishment ...
I very peaceful site.
We re-visit the area pretty well every year as brother in law has a house there and we use it as a stop over and short visit in both directions.

If you go to Bordeaux, and are the least bit interested in wine (few who go to France aren't! lol) ... do visit the new LaCite du Vin in it's extraordinary building ... it's an amazing experience ... for kids, too!

La Rochelle is a great day out ... and the brandy making area, and Angouleme, Limoges etc

Thanks Kelper. Will put LaCite on the list. Plan to see Angouleme. Already been to La Rochelle and Limoges but still got plenty of places to see in the area.

It's worth reading 'The Voices of Oradour' by David M Thomas, before visiting the place.

I'd also advise not doing it at the end of a holiday (we did, then found it made us both feel pretty sombre on our homeward journey).
