Just a reminder that if you camp in France and other parts of Europe you ought to sign up for Camping Best Deal (https://www.campingnavigator.com/en/best-deal-camping-card/). The card is free and offers you some sort of discount on all sites in the scheme, different rates in different seasons) but there are some sites which offer discounts even in the high season.

Best Deal sites are part of the download from Archies Camping http://www.archiescampings.eu/

I read your posts with interest Val as we spend our summers exploring France in the ‘off seasons’ We take ACSI with us and use their sites so is Best Deal as good and need we take it as well. Value yor advice.

Alternatives are always a good option, and there are sites in 'Best Deal' which aren't in ACSI - and the other way round. Also some Best Deal sites offer discounts even in high season.............!

I have suggested some improvements to the Best Deal website, via Archie of Archies Camping (who has a friend there) as I don't find it easy to negotiate, and Archie has passed them on.

I agree about a confusing website.

At no point can you find what the actual deal price is for the sites listed.

There seems to be no acknowledgement, on the campsite's own web page, of the existence of Best Deal.

We know what the deal includes but not what it costs.

I agree Stuart. I've had the BestDeal card for a number of years as I was able to get a card when they were first issued. I have hardly used it though, I can only remember it once when the site in Gien was €1 cheaper with BD than with ACSI!

Despite it being Dutch and normally the Dutch being very organised (like me) I've never found it that user friendly either. When I first got the card I also got a brochure with all sites listed, which was quite useful, but after that it was only downloadable from the website, which was a lot less clear. The app was unable to be downloaded when you were in the UK, I could only download it in France. But perhaps now that it is freely available to the UK this may improve. But when I wanted to update the app this year it only contained details for 2016.......

All in all I haven't been a fan of it so far, as the majority of sites accept ACSI too, and as we don't travel in peak season their deals for that season don't interest me.

But I'm always optimistic so will wait and see what 2018 brings!

There are actually Best Deal guides to each country which can be downloaded, with all sites listed - and the Best Deal price is displayed on each one. I've downloaded France and Spain and found that the prices of the sites I was interested in compare with ACSI - with St Lambert at Millau being just 11 euros. Best Deal actually offer quite a few 'ACSI' sites, but of course there is no need to buy a card or guides - the Best Deal card is free.

For those who may only want a couple of nights stay on a particular site (where the price of the guides/card will cost more than the saving) it's definitely worth looking at Best Deal

Thanks for that Val
There does seem to be advantages to using Best Deal
e.g
Les Berges du Canal, Villeneuve-les-Beziers
ACSI(2548) €17      Best Deal ( FR-Q114) €15

Now spending my time checking all the other sites

Memo to self: I must get a life

Yes, Stuart - some sites are cheaper. And for penny pinchers every centime counts!

For those that are in the ADAC breakdown scheme, their camping card is a useful addition. Mostly mirrors ACSI rates but has some differences in dates of operation and discounts such as 6 for 7.

Warning:
I find that with ACSI, Camping Cheque, Best Deal, Camping Key, FFCC and ADAC, I need a separate wallet.

I just tried to download Provence and all I got was a new tab with blank screen. I waited a couple of minutes but gave up. Any ideas?

I find that I need a separate wallet in the UK too! All those loyalty cards....
