The usual pet passport rules apply regarding injections and so on and I expect you know all that. In Italy you slould take a muzzle as you may be asked to put it on your dog in public places or on transport.

I don't where you would like to go and what you want to do - the mountain areas in the Alps and the Dolomites are fine for walks with your dog, but in the towns there's an awful lot of cathedrals, churches, palaces, museums, historic buildings and galleries where one of you will have to wait outside with the dog. Not many seaside beaches are dog friendly as many of them are private and paying, but some of the lake beaches are better in that respect, and it can be very hot .

This website has some useful info: www.vacanza-con-cane.it. Sorry, I can't do the linky thing. It looks like there are quite a few dog-friendly beaches in Italy.
