Have you checked in campsite search on here? You can enter your requirements and see what comes up. Then read the reviews on any that take your fancy.

6 hours from Calais and you could get to the Loire valley. Weather is generally a bit better. Lots of busy campsites and plenty to do, but not too many lakes and rivers (especially if it's swimming/ canoeing your looking for).

You might get to Lake Annecy at a push.

6 hours from Calais would get you to northern Burgundy. However, a shorter journey (3 - 4 hours)would get you to Troyes. Lac D'Orient isn't far. It's a great site across the road from a lake beach with swimming, pedaloes, ices etc. Site has pool, shop and really helpful staff. Lot to see in the area too. See reviews on here.

If the Loire does appeal - and there are definitely campsites offering canoeing etc - think Camping les Saules is one - might be worth a look at Camping Lac De Varennes near Tours. They have a lake with beach, fishing, entertainment etc.
There is loads to do in the area - and obviously lots of culture and wine if you fancy a break from the sport!

Steve , There are overnight sites all the way down that road towards Marseillan - perhaps Langres and Tain l'Hermitage might suit, but the site guides will list lots more. Take care.
