so were hopefully off for 3 weeks in august, we normally head south with a few stopovers on the way but this year want to head to the dordogne/lot area, were looking at a few nights at saint pardoux then moving on, doesnt have to be all singing and dancing but not against it either, would like to be right next to a lake or river for swimming kayaking fishing have a shop bar and takeaway or cafe on site other than that just within reasonable distance for sightseeing and shopping

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Do you need more stopovers than the one you have chosen at Saint Pardoux?

If you were to cross from Portsmouth to Caen and leave there the next morning it is an easy 220 miles to Saint Pardoux and then a further 180 miles to your Dordogne destination. Job done?

Sorry no. I see you have booked the tunnel though that seems an awful long way round from your Gloucester address. My mistake.

I would echo Nethertons comment but as your booked.............. try looking in the Vitrac area South of Sarlat.
Lots of sites so you may be lucky even in August.

La Bouysse at Vitrac / Montfort is great value for money - very safe river swimming in the Dordogne - bar and takeaway on site - easy access to big LeClerc supermarket in Sarlat avoiding traffic even in July / August.

Right next to Soliel Plage campsite which is more all singing / dancing - no problem about using their bar / restaurant / shop.

Some of the finest sights in the Dordogne - Sarlat, Domme, Roque Gageac, Castlenaud, Beynac, Marqueyssac gardens all within a short drive.

We have stayed at Soleil Plage, hence my recommendation to look at the Vitrac area.
Its a very nice site, we preferred the main area rather than by the river, and it has a great pool complex.
On arrival they asked if we wanted book a table for that evening but we declined thinking we would just get there when it suited us but it was completely full when we got there.
We ate there on another night and the food was very, very good.

On price though as usual you will pay for this quality, we usually go May/June so almost all on ACSI. There are restrictions on arrival days but three weeks, in August, would be Ä1040 at Soleil but next door, at Le Bouysse only Ä655.
