What you have to do once you are abroad is in the remit of that country. If France still requires visitors to self isolate for 7 days on entry when we are allowed to travel abroad then I fail to see one could actually go in caravan or motorhome. Holland requires 10 days self isolation on entry I think.

It is very difficult even now to see how this will go. Logically if the intention is to open up the UK for domestic holidays then the sensible course of action might be to ban foreign holiday travel for rest of year. That might not be politically possible though.

Hi,
Report I read regarding £60 PCR tests only mentioned flying & that it was an offer in conjunction with ‘airline partners’, unknown which ones as yet. Hopefully it will encourage other companies to drop their prices & include ferries/eurotunnel

Suggestion is that gov is giving in one hand by saying they will allow foreign hols then taking away with the other by making the logistics of actually going almost impossible. 6 hour waits for incoming at Heathrow apparently & this before hols are allowed so should be just as bad at ports for coming & going when hols allowed I guess ?

I would go along with your last notion there Billy, they will try to make it as difficult(costly) as they can for most of this year.

Think there are a few issues here:

Will France be a green country?
Will LFT be acceptable before leaving France?
How much the PCR sequence test is within two days of being back in the U.K.?
What pre-entry tests will France require before entering their country?
Will you need to quarantine in France or take yet another test after a couple of days of being there?

If four tests per person are required then I’m pretty sure it will sway the majority against travelling, me included sadly

I will be flying shortly on an essential trip.

I have to fill in a declaration of why we need to travel, book a test within 48 hours before the flight out and get proof of negative result in order to board the plane

We will be landing in Germany so no need for another test or quarantine (after 28th April) as UK is no longer considered a 'risk' country.

On return I have to do a test before flying back, have to have pre-booked a day 2 and day 8 test back in the UK (you apparently can`t get back into the UK without proof you have these tests booked) and quarantine for 10 days (timing starts the day after you land). Straight from airport to home, no stops to pick up bread/milk etc allowed!. No shopping trips, no taking dogs for walks etc. You have to remain in your own home and garden. I have a supermarket delivery booked for our first day back.

Its going to end up costing the best part of 500 pounds for the two of us for all the tests!

We can shorten quarantine by taking an additional test on day 5 but results can take up to 48 hours and with a negative you are out of quarantine, but I`m not sure its worth it for what effectively be one day less.

Can EU based residents now freely move between EU countries ? Ie can a Dutch caravanner hitch up & drive from Holland to a site in the Dordogne for example ? Do they need tests ? Or will they be able to move freely around the EU say from June onwards ? Does anybody know ?

To enter France from another EU country you must have to have proof of a negative PCR test, no need for any isolation

Ah yes. In mid June last year the EU space “opened up” for completely free travel. Last year that included UK now it does not. I notice in the news it is claimed by some of the media that some European countries are “desperate” for Brits to come but no mention of France which is where most caravanners land first. So as usual all news of EU summer hol travel is plane based not car based.

I certainly ain’t paying out for a ferry to Spain on top of the tests. Around my way PCR tests are still north of £120 each.

Having been following this very closely and in my opinion (not fact based) I think France will go on the amber list, which will mean some kind of isolation on return and a lateral flow test, which you might be able to take with you, whether France will change it's tune on the PCR test for entry remains to be seen and costs are coming down, but they will have to at some stage.

I'm with you on the Ferry to Spain, I come back from Spain for the first time on the ferry in Feb, never again, it was like being locked in a cell for 24 hours

It still looks like it's going to be expensive and a lot of faffing around, with tests necessary to go out and to return, then 2 more during the 10 days of isolation. And then there's all the new - and costly - documentation required to take a dog.

It's impossible to make firm plans at the moment but it's not going to be an easy or cheap process, that's for sure!
