Been looking at Defra Website and the Animal Health Certificate process looks complicated for the vet.
If we go, I suspect we might be the first one our Vet has had to process..
Mentioned it to my Vet a few weeks ago and he seemed rather vague about it.
My old dog getting his Rabies booster soon, Wonder If I should get the vaccine details put in his Pet Passport? And if we go, Vet can put details on AHC later.
I know that I should see Vet for a AHC , within 10 days of my departure date.
Iím not saying I donít trust my Vet, but I like to be clear about these things.
According to DEFA putting the information in the wrong box will cause problems when trying to leave the country.
Iíve seen people in tears on the French side in the Pet Passport place, because Vet made an error on the Passport.

For your vet to be classed as an OV they will have to have been on a DEFRA course regarding the new paperwork, they have to pay for this so you normally find only one vet per practice will have done it. Or of course they might think it wasn't worth their while.

When one of ours went in March for her booster the details were added to her passport, and when the other one needs his at the end of the year the vet said to remember to bring his passport.

Allow plenty of time at the practice as the whole process took just over an hour and a half, mind you we were the first people to have got an AHC from them.

There is only a very small section to be filled in and stamped by the French vet, and of course we had to coach her through it as this was her first one.
We also got her to do both dogs passport as well, and this is what we used at Eurotunnel.

We had our AHC done in June, and being thorough I read all the DEFRA advice and guidelines to vets. I checked our AHC and found three errors, so took it back immediately. It was changed but the vet then forgot to date and stamp the replacement page, so I handed it back.

Check every detail before leaving the vet. It may save you heartache and a cancelled crossing.

To be fair, ours was the first our vet had done, but many others are reporting similar problems.

Can I ask where these people are reporting the problems as I can find nothing on the tinterweb.

I would also point out that the two women working at Eurotunnel Pet Reception, obviously new to the job, were only giving the paperwork a cursory glance and advising people "if you travel regularly better to get a EU Pet Passport!".

If you have an EU passport, the UK vet cannot make an entry to it, e.g. the rabies update, any entry has to be done by an EU vet and then there is the question of residency, some say it is not an issue.

To be fair, mostly with Brittany Ferries. Several people have been refused boarding because of what seem like minor errors, but is is happening, so better to check before a long trip to a port

Sorry but still being updated by our vet, and then all stamped up by French vet. Then used at Eurotunnel upon departure.

Details please "blueexpo97. I wrote to our vet earlier this year, he said categorically that he could not make any entries in an EU issued pet passport. I really hope he's in error?

You're right. I too don't understand Blueexpo97's post. Explicit instructions are that any entry of rabies vaccinations into an EU passport by a non-EU vet after 01/01/2021 will invalidate that passport. Hence the requirement for anyone with an EU passport to have subsequent rabies boosters done in the EU. Perhaps the entries were done prior to that date.

What 'details' would you like adrian?

Val I clearly state in my first reply of this thread when the rabies booster was given.

I'm sorry, I cannot find your first reply to this thread. Was the rabies booster done in EU? Or was the original rabies injection done in the EU?
Sorry to labour the point and seek further clarification, but it could save us a great deal of money(4 trips annually) Both dogs have French issued passports, but because the rabies injection and blood titre pre-dated their issue. The vet said she couldn't enter the details in the "new" passports. Everything else was carried forward.

i need to be clear to avoid being turned back at either Portsmouth or Ouistreham. Thank you for your patience!

I phoned DEFRA 2 days ago regarding this issue. Our 2 dogs have EU issued passports and had their rabies boosters done during 2020 and details entered into their passports by our UK vet.
The information from DEFRA was that prior to 31st December 2020, UK vets still qualified as EU vets as we were in the transition period, and so entries made by UK vets in EU pet passports before this date are still valid and the passport is still valid for travel.
After 1st January 2021, the only thing UK vets can enter into an EU pet passport (and it still remain valid for travel) are details of tapeworm treatment and the fit to travel section. This information is stated specifically in the recorded message from DEFRA at the start of the phone call.
The next booster for our dogs is due in 2023, so I was advised by DEFRA that to keep the pet passports valid for travel, we will need to get the boosters done in the EU and details entered into the passport by an EU vet.
Hope this information helps. If anyone has any further questions I would advise phoning the DEFRA pet travel line, as they are extremely helpful (although there is a lot of pre-recorded message to listen to first before you get through to a person, some of that is very useful information too).

Thanks "bofs", all is clear now. We have missed out as our UK Vet did not enter details in our EU passports.

That's an expensive mistake! Where are the rabies injection details then? Just a thought - if the rabies jabs were done before 1st Jan.2021, could the vet not enter the details in the passport retrospectively (needs to be an EU issued EU passport, not a UK issued one, if that makes sense)? Might be worth a phone call to DEFRA?
The titre test is no longer required btw.
Otherwise, looks like you'll need to get an AHC for this trip and then get the next rabies booster done in the EU and entered into the passports (or get EU issued ones) to make them valid for future trips.
