Last year we did manage a few trips: two weeks in August/September, one week in October and a few days in Cologne for the Christmas markets (car & hotel, not motorhome that time). And yes the red tape and testing was a bit of a hassle, but we thought it was totally worth it. We also went away in September 2020 (can't actually remember if there was any testing back then?)
We haven't booked anything for this yet, but we're planning on 3 weeks in May/June and 2 weeks in August/September. The 3 week trip is one we originally planned for May 2020, postponed and re-planned for May 2021......we're hoping its 3rd time lucky this year.
We don't usually book campsites because we often change our plans as we go along, but we do really need Eurotunnel to re-start the Frequent Traveller scheme because we've run out of crossings!
Remember that P&O are now doing season tickets for MH`s, I know it is not the same as Eurotunnel but until frequent traveller tickets are available again it is a much cheaper alternative.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Yeah I know they do, but the tunnel is just so much quicker and more convenient. I guess it depends on the cost difference, but it'd have to be huge to make it worthwhile though. We both work full time so in some respects time is money and we're prepared to pay a bit extra if it saves us a few hours. We tend to leave home after work, drive to the tunnel, get a crossing arriving around 8 or 9pm and then park up for the night about 45 minutes from Calais. I'm not sure the ferry timings would work as well

I have for years had a Eurotunnel FT account but because they were not available in 2021 I bought a 3 x return seson ticket from P&O for less than the cost of a one-off return with Eurotunnel. It was a big saving but it also helps that I live 30 minutes from Dover.

That's a huge saving
We're about 2 hours from the tunnel, a bit further from Dover obviously.
I did actually cost it out - a MH season ticket return is £172, a standard non-refundable Eurotunnel return for our times/dates in May/June would be £258. But on the ferry we wouldn't arrive at our overnight stop until around midnight, whereas on the tunnel we'd get there around 9 or 10ish. And knowing that we are planning a long journey the next day it makes it worth paying the extra £86 for us.
