Due to various reasons, I have decided to cancel my plan to travel to France and the Netherlands for two weeks in late May/early June this year.
I am now involved in a big outdoor local event in mid June 2022, and do not feel comfortable to be away from base for 2 weeks so close to the event.
Compounded with Covid uncertainties in Europe, the trip is a no-go for this year.
Fingers firmly crossed for 2023!

That's a shame. Could you possibly go later? We always enjoy September, when all the hustle and bustle of high season is over but the weather is (usually) still nice.
We like September too, once the schools have reopened. We always stay in this country these days though, and we have had some fabulous weather. I find that the weather in September can often be better in September than it is in August, which can be quite unsettled. It may not be quite so hot in September, and the nights have drawn in a bit more, but I have known it hotter than August. It's certainly much quieter with the kids back at school.
Years ago we used to go to the Costa-del-Sol for a week in December, but since we retired we have been unable to. Our passports ran out in 2014 anyway. One year we went to Benalmadina for Christmas week, and it seemed strange to be walking on the beach in 24 degree heat on Christmas morning.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

I am planning to go to France in mid May 2023 in between the bank holidays, only out of the country for a week at one site only.
I did think about going later in the year, however, the campsite I have in mind in Carnac closes in mid-September!
The Netherlands can wait until 2024, again, one site for a week or so only.
I am booked up until late October 2022 this year so all is not lost.
I like camping in June and September when I was working as part of a team in an office. Nowadays I work from home being my own boss, which means more freedom to go camping as and when I please.
I am not too keen on being away from UK for more than a week in the van, not until I can be certain of good internet connections so that I can work from it in Mainland Europe.

Hi DK, Each must make their own decisions, but if being your own boss and having more freedom still restricts you to just a week abroad maybe the cost, in finance and worry, is not worth it?

In our experience, the internet connections on France campsites are as good, if not better than in the U.K!
To us, it seems like an awful lot of travelling, trouble and expense to go to Europe for only a week, especially with the current testing and paperwork requirements and taking the dog too - but then we do have from 320 to 400 miles to get to the ferry port from home (depending on where we cross from).

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I personally do not wish to be away from base in a foreign country for more than a week at a time.
2 weeks is pushing it and I only do that once every 2 to 3 years or so for intercontinental trips.
More to do with work - getting back to work after being away for 2 weeks means a lot of issues to address and resolve, much more so than being away for just one week.
Being involved with a big event as a newbie member of a charity in June 2022 is an honour, and I do not wish to mess that up for certain.
With camping trips for rest of the year from March to October already planned, and the French site that I have in mind closing so early in mid September, it would be very difficult to squeeze a trip to France this year.
Besides, with all the Covid faff at the moment, with wind direction changing unexpectedly, and with complications relating to Brexit and pet travel, I just don't feel comfortable right now to travel to France and beyond.
Each to their own, granted, and I have grand plans for 2023 that includes a trip to France staying at the site that I have always wanted to stay in Carnac as the first trip. This site has been saved in my virtual brochure for as long as I have been a member of UKCS back in 2009!!!

Please don't feel you have to justify your decision - no criticism intended so hope no offence taken!
Fingers crossed your plans for 2023 happen as intended and you finally get to enjoy the site in Carnac.
