I will be driving in Holland for the first time, and I have a diesel car. I I am travelling on the Hull to Rotterdam route.   I have just learnt about the Lez area. Anyone who has travelled this area on the P and O if the port is effected under the scheme. I am travelling to Annen to see friends.
I would be so grateful of any advice.

Heather

Four questions. Do you mean Arnhem? Will you be driving into the city centre? Is your car diesel? What is its Euro emissions category?

The ferry arrives in Europoort not Rotterdam. The last I heard was that the LEZ only applies to lorries and was going to be scrapped but you need to double check this.

Thatís good and sounds OK to me but best to check with your friends out there to ask for confirmation of local rules. They will know. Take care.

Enjoy your trip. No restrictions or other rules for a diesel. Annen is a lovely little place.

Take your bank card with you and not only a credit card. Mostly you can only pay by bank card.( shops, supermarket, petrol station)

Hi, I haven't been to Holland since May 2019, but having looked at the https://www.milieuzones.nl/english website, the LEZ area around Europoort (Maasvlakte) only affects HGVs, not cars.

Having had a quick skim through the website, diesel cars with emission levels 5 and above aren't affected. It's mainly the bigger towns/cities in the west/northwest (Amsterdam) and also a few in the south . Travelling from Europoort to Annen you aren't going to be near any LEZs, which affect you as a cardriver. You'll presumably be passing Utrecht on the motorway, but the LEZ is only for the centre of that town and the motorway isn't part of that.

Great, thank you for your replies. I have been away touring camping in Northumberland.
Fantastic, I was able to have some contact with P and O on facebook, Everyone's answers collaborate what I was told.   It is a large relief.
I will be passing Utrecht on the motorway, that's good news.

I will be taking my bank card. The one I have is a major one, which is used world wide and has banks everywhere in the world. which is great. It was recommended by which magazine.

It will be daunting for me to drive solo in my car abroad, but it will be a great grounding for when I want to tour at some point in Europe.

I will be meeting friends who I have not seen for 35 yrs since we all met on a Kibbutz.

Thank you again for replying
Heather

Just for your info, I have found the Netherlands to be the best place to drive in all of Europe, including the UK. Drivers are polite and give you way and I saw no incidents of road rage. The only rudeness I encountered was when we walked along a cycle route in Amsterdam, thinking it was a walkway for pedestrians. A grumpy old man on a bike shouted at us when there was no real need to. I thanked him for his advice by waving my middle finger at him.

Awww thank you, It will be a bit daunting for me, that is reassuring to find the Netherlands is the best place to drive. I will have around a 3 hour drive to Annen, where my friend lives, and have been looking for the best and easiest route for me to drive.
I'm arriving early in Hull to avoid any stress and booked breakfast, so Ill have had something to eat before I have docked in Rotterdam. Done the same on the return journey bit paid for dinner as well, treating the sailing as part of my holiday, relaxing and enjoying myself.

I have another friend travelling down from Denmark to meet up as the 3 of us, worked together in the cowshed on the Kibbutz many moons ago.
