Looking at booking a one night stop before catching ferry home from Roscoff. Going on everyone's recommendations I'm going to book at Le Trologot.
Booking direct with the site is coming up with a price of Ä44 approx. As a member of the Caravan and Motohome club its only £26.61.
This seems a massive difference, does it seem right? Not booked any sites before through the club and wasn't expecting such a price difference, not that I'm complaining if this is correct.
Just looking for reassurance that I've not mucked up basically...don't want to get to the site and encounter problems. Thanks

I think you may get a better response if you put this question into the camping and caravanning abroad section. Hopefully you will get more answers as I am no expert.

If you book through the CMC there will probably be reviews on their website that might highlight any difficulties. Sometimes French sites charge a booking administration fee which can make it more expensive to book one night. The CMC usually books en block so the fee is waved.

Thank you. Have booked through CMC. There did appear to be an administration fee added to the campsite fee which was quite a bit more expensive. First year with CMC and first time booking a site through them so fingers crossed all goes to plan.

I discovered that to my cost, in that an admin fee of 11 EUR was charged per stay, regardless of how many nights for the French site I booked for May 2024: 1 trip for 3 nights for the outbound trip, and just 1 night on the return leg.

I am guessing they don't like overnighters hogging their site.

Strange that, we tour France out of the high season, when we use campsites we mostly use ACSI but not exclusively, we've never been charged an admin charge for an overnight stop, tourist tax yes but that's usually less than Ä2 for the pair of us. We've even used sites used by the two big clubs as overnight stops and never been charged an admin fee.

I read it as the CMHC adding an admin fee for 1 night stops not the French sites.

Aah! That makes sense.

I understand why people use the big clubs to book a site if it's the first time they've done it, with a bit of experience though you'll come to realise that you can do it directly and cut out the middle-man.

With Le Trologot itís worth double checking that their reception is going to be open at the time you plan to arrive. There is a small waiting area outside, but you wonít get onto the site if it is closed.

We were charged a reservation fee for 2 nights at a site in Carnac that we just turned up to without a reservation in October, was not impressed! Complained but got nowhere. Difficult when not many sites open at that time of year. Have booked sites abroad occasionally through CAMC without a fee being charged

You don't say when you are going. We travel outside of high season and don't book ahead other than perhaps sending an email two or three days in advance, particularly with sites near to ports. We have always found we are expected and have never been charged a deposit.

We have come across sites that charge an admin fee for booking in advance, often waived out of high season though. If you need to book in advance, I've discovered that one way to avoid the booking fee/deposit is to send an email booking enquiry direct to the campsite, rather than use the site's online booking system. It usually works but occasionally they just redirect you to the booking page, in which case you need to decide how much you really want to stay on that campsite.
