Soon we will be looking te replace the van we sold last year (with drawl too much)

We will need a 6 berth with two bunks which can take adult weights, I'm struggling to find a suitable van around 2002/7 to fit our budget.

Any suggestions or thoughts please.

In my experience none of them are suitable for adults, they simply are not strong enough orwide enough.

the balley gt60 bunk beds are rated to 75 kg, thats about 10.5 stone

Surprising really, I would have thought one of the manufacturers would have something.

As an alternative we could look for another configuration something with good singles and occasional bunks up top, ideally separate from the living area to give some privacy.

A rear Dinette layout may suit you as they can often be shut off completely with a shutter door or curtain. Some of the older vans may have sliding doors on a top roller mechanism, but when we had one like that it was a pain for coming off its tracks easily.

Some of the bunks can be as narrow as 18 inches on the top one,with a max weight of 8stone,and a very thin mattress of about 2inches, hardly comfortable for an adult.

One of the good points of our Lunar is that the front singles are a nice wide 2ft6ins, making them easy to turn over on in the night without having to shuffle a lot lol

Thats an idea, I'll have a trawl around the net.

There are so many floorplans I dont really know what to think so any ideas are truly most welcome.

How many adults and children are you trying to accomodate Sheltie?

Are the singles needed to separtate the boys from the girls or would it be possible to tuck three (I once managed 4 lol) children up in a large 6ftx6ft front double and you have the shut off dinette at the rear?  To get a layout with full sized singles both front and rear you are going to end up with quite a large van, probably18ft internal length, and they are now hard to find due to the popularity of fixed bed layouts taking their place. One of our old vans, an Avondale Olympus had a layout of a rear double dinette with double bunks over, but these were only suitable for children as mentioned before, and i doubt theres many of them around now as they were 1993 manufactured and were notorious for damp.

Our oldest son at 26 needs to travel with us and our youngest is 10 going on 14 if you know what I mean!  our granddaughters are quite young and will only be with us occasionally, a variety of friends will be with us from time to time, maybe I'm making more of it than needs but it would be a shame to end up with the wrong van.
