Five for the CC and one against looks like pig farmer may be wrong

Well this forum is a bit like the "Caravan Club Appreciation Society",

That may be because the majority of people find the Caravan Club and it's network of sites to be very very good.

I use both private and club sites regulary and can honestly say that not one of the private sites (and I've stayed at some of teh most highly rated sites in the country) comes up to the standards consistantly achieved by the CC.

Yes, but the difference with club types & real campers is, we don't go on holiday to sit around a camp site all day comparing eachother's caravans. It's just a base to go exploring from.

As long as there's a clean, working toilet & possibly a shower, a camp site is a camp site.

Just because they're not arranged in neat, regimented rows & all in marked pitches is of little consequence when I'm on holiday.

I'm a member of the CC and I use other sites too, I explore from my caravan it's a base, if I choose not to then I sit in it out side it with a book, I can assure you I don't compare my van to others, I'm there with my van like others are, I don't know why people think all CC sites are regimented rows or all big flash vans, I've been there with my old 21 year old bailey when I first joined, never felt like an outsider, my van I have now is a 2006 , old compared to some, but I'm there just to get away, and enjoy myself. True CC sites are clean, but I've been to private sites that were in par.
I've had to cancel last minute last year as I had a appendicitis , so people have to cancel sometimes last minute.

"... I know it's a tactic to go on and book all the good sites and then cancel if the weather is not nice..."
I'm not a member of either club (see Groucho Marx!) but if this is true, surely the club(s) could set a filter to prevent members from booking more than one site at a time for the same dates? Easy enough to check, whether it be human or computer taking the booking, and hopefully that would limit the problem to some degree.....

Hi Gram, You can’t book more than one site for the same date the system will not let you do so, the problem with sites showing full when in fact there are spaces, could be down to the fact that the computer system is not fully equipped to handle late cancellations, and then show the availability of that cancellation on the main site, it could also be that the cancellations are typed in manually to the system and not fully automated, which would account for the time delay and sites still showing full.

Regarding the “no shows and no notification”, in my opinion the no shows should automatically be notified by the club that they will be charged for that day, then if payment not received the member would then be automatically barred from the club and from using any club site, with all their future booking also being cancelled for a period of time?, this should not be to difficult to implement as the club’s have all their members details on file, for non members of clubs, that could be made part of the booking contract. I do sympathize with all who find it hard to get the site they wish because of the system and abuses.

We all know real campers just talk about how waterproof their tents are and how well it stood up to the wind the night before while they are digging a hole in the woods.

I seriously laughed out loud at the description of a caravan club site (from someone who clearly has never been to one!)

I want to go the site with regimented rows where we all sit around comparing caravans....why would we do that?

Bizzare comment - and as for "proper campers" I've been camping since I was 2 years old - I'm pretty sure I know how it works.

I've been to CC sites before.

That's the thing though, they don't "all" sit around comparing, they "curtain twitch", nothing social about it.

What gets me is this obsession with facilities & the people who claim NO independent sites can come close to club sites.
Now that is a ridiculous statement to make. For a start what facilities do you actually NEED? & surely as long as they are clean & functional then they're OK. Just because they're not diamond encrusted gold taps on the sinks doesn't make the site a slum.

There seems to be an awful lot of snobbery from a lot of members on here with regards to club sites versus independent sites.

I'm not impressed with either of the two "big clubs", I requested an application pack from both about the possibility of opening a site with them last year and have yet to have a response from either.
The booking system seems to be a bit of a common thread on here for the CC.

You've obviously got an issue with CC members - and are just out to call us - it's a shame you are so woefully misinfored, but hey ho, it leaves more pitches available for the people who like the sites.
I'm certainly not a snob, wouldn't waste my time curtain twitching and up until very recently had a very snobby 1983 Abi Marauder.
As I've stated previously CC members do use other sites, the one I'm currently on has no facilities at all - fancy that, not even a dirty toilet! It's a CL site which of course you have to be a member of CC to use so wouldn't interest you.

You ar totally missing the point.  There is a world of difference between what a site NEEDS to provide to what they ACTUALLY provide.

Toilets only need to flush, but it's so much more pleasant when they are a a well lit warm block.  It also makes it that much better if the place is clean and well decorated.

Showers only need to throw water at you, but it is much better if the temperature of the water and the pressure can be controlled, also not having to press a button every 15 seconds for the flow to continue.  Nice large cubicled with a dry are to change and hang clothes is also nice.

You only need a drain to empty the waste bit it makes it so much easier of that drain is at ground level and the wastemaster does not have to be lifted 18 inched off the ground when full.

Get the idea? Or do you want any more examples?

Like I've previously stated, this forum is very much the Caravan Club Appreciation Society, so there's little point saying anything against them.

I've had my experiences with the club, their sites & many of their members. That was enough for me.

We all look for something different in our caravan holidays. Personally I much prefer to use my own toilet & shower in the 'van, so facilities are of little consequence.

I'm glad we're not all the same, but I do feel like independent sites get run down far too often on these pages, so therefore I feel it's important to provide a balanced view.
I was also under the impression most club site showers were now push button? TBH I've only ever come across one independent site with push button showers, but that was when I was tenting, so had to use site facilities.

(also, you CC members are far too easy to wind up - the wink emoticon means I'm joking, of course)

to be honest when people on this site ask for sites to go to, the first people to respond are the club people with there site, should not the first question be "are you in any of the clubs?", but no all the people in the clubs expect everyone is too.
