Just wondering if you leave gas bottle turned on all the time, I have a habbit of turning it off all the time just incase it leaks etc.
Am I worring too much ??
Just running out in the middle of the night in you undies to turn the gas on can get a little cold and odd looks.!!

Hi, Yes we always leave our gas on when on site, upto now no problems.
Must admit though i did prefer it when the regulator was mounted to the bottle, i always felt it was more controlled if there was a leak outside.
Dunc.

I leave the gas ON when on site, but before we leave I disconnect the pig tail from the gas bottle (having turned off first !!) and let it hang down. Using this method we have so far avoided a repeat performance of an oiled up regulator.

I wonder how many people check the hose from the bottle? I check mine at the start of every season for cracks as a few years ago, even though the orange hose looked perfect,i discovered when you bent it slightly it was full of small cracks and perished..

It is also recommended that low pressure hoses are replaced every five years.
Actually you'll get people recommending that they are replaced every three years or even every year, but five years is the standard recommendation.

We turn ours off when the van is at home though I leave the hose connected. On site I try to remember to turn it off when not in use but don't always remember. I don't loose any sleep over it but just think its good practice.
The van is serviced every year but I probably check the hose two or three times a year in addition, at the beginning of the season and mid season.

Going by the condition of the caravan when I bought it ( a lemon ) I am going to guess that the pipe is older than before they bought it. So I guess I will be replacing it.
I am waiting to get the gas fire etc to be serviced too.

Like others have said, when travelling I turn off the gas also with regulator disconnected and leave it turned on when on site. Regarding the orange LPG hose I always renew mine when I purchase the van and then replace again after five years as recommended.

I leave the bottle on, but close the 4 internal gas taps at night. The gas locker is sealed from the interior of the van, so I have always thought that this was enough. And I would never travel with gas bottle on obviously.
