Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the land on which New House Farm stands has a rich and exciting history. Man has worked this land from prehistoric times, leaving many traces visible on the farm. This sense of history gives the farm a remarkable atmosphere which is almost timeless.
We are a working organic family farm, basic camping, campfires and great views. Plus a very warm welcome!
We offer a ‘back to basics camping experience on our working farm. Our limited facilities are offset by the panoramic views of the Peak District and stunning sunsets to the west.
Basic camping at New House farm means cold water, compost loos, no showers, and meeting the very free range animals and poultry. No electricity hook-up Enjoy the sounds of the countryside without your hair-dryer or DAB radio.
Fire pits are provided free of charge, and wood is available to purchase. There is also a farm shop selling farm produce.
No fixed pitches so campers use a selection of fields dependent on livestock grazing and haymaking.
We charge per person per night. £8 for adults, £4 for children. (No charge for children under 3 years old.)
Well behaved dogs are allowed by arrangement.
The farm shop stocks a wide range of home produced eggs, beef and lamb, plus pork products from a local farm. We can also supply salad in season from the farm.
Our very free range chickens roost in the sycamore tree in the garden and lay fabulous eggs - we also sell our duck and goose eggs in season.
We have put together an archaeology trail with an accompanying guide book that you can use on your visit to explore the land in more detail and 'read the landscape' to discover over 4000 years of human activity.
We are 2 miles from Carsington Water, 3 miles from Ashbourne, 3 miles from the Tissington Cycle Trail to the east, 4 miles from the High Peak Trail to the west, 5 miles from Dovedale. Also National Stone Museum, Matlock Mining Museum, Crich Tramway Museum, Sudbury Childrens Museum, Darley Dale Carriage Museum, Arkwrights Cromford Mill, Ashbourne Heritage Centre, Wirksworth Heritage Centre, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Alton Towers, Gullivers Kingdom, Tissington, Matlock, Bakewell, Buxton and Derby are all within a very short distance.
