Ferry Meadows is an excellent CC site, and having visited many CC sites I would easily rank this in my top 5 for cleanliness of the facilities.

We pitched on the reception side of the site and had no problems at all with traffic noise. It was very peaceful just the sounds of the birds in the early mornings.

Entry to the site is via a card barrier. Entrance to the toilets is via a number code which again is much better than sites where you have to remember to take the key with you.

The site is next to the Nene Park which is excellent for walking or cycling. There are also lots of water sports available on the park, which would be ideal if you have teenagers with you.

The steam train runs adjacent to the site, with a 50% discount available for CC users.

Cycle paths into Peterborough are all off road, and flat its approx 3 miles into city centre.

My only gripe would be the chip van. After reading other reviews we decided to try the fish and chips from the van. Yes you do get large portions however they were cooked in old and burnt fat and were probably the worst fish and chips I have ever tasted bar none (maybe we had them on a bad day).

Overall an excellent visit to Ferry Meadows and we would not hesitate to book a return visit.

This site was our trial run with two kids in the caravan!

Not too far from home, but plenty to do.

I have to say I wasn't much looking forward to it, but I am glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised and we had a fantastic weekend.

The facilities were well maintained and clean, the pitches were generously sized and the play area was so good that I didn't see the kids apart from for meal times

Would definitely go again. Lovely location near lots of open space and easy access too.

Just got back from this lovely site. We pitched up in the pouring rain and the ground was quite soggy which restricted the site on where we could go. We were handed a site plan with highlighted pitches to choose as the rest were out of bounds due to the boggy ground.

The toilets and showers were immaculate, some of the best we have ever experienced and with it being school holidays I know it can't be easy to keep on top of with that many children on site !

Turn right out of the site and the lakes walk was lovely, turn left and walk down to the platform to see the steam trains and carry on down to enjoy a drink or a meal at The Granary Pub.

The only down side was no or very little TV signal for the evenings where we were reduced to QVC !

We visited Ferry Meadows over Easter weekend with some friends and had a very enjoyable time.

The site is spilt into two by the road that goes through to Nene Valley County Park and to check in you have to go into the left for the reception area, this side of the site is set into smaller areas, whilst on the other side of the road is more open and has a larger play area for children.

The reception has the usual items for sale such as milk etc and you can also order newspapers for the following day. The toilets on site are kept very clean and tidy as is the rest of the site the wardens seem to work hard to keep it like this to their credit.

The country park at the bottom of the road is great for walking or cycling around the lakes and there is also a cafe if you would like to break your walk up.

As you enter the site you have to go over a railway crossing which is part of the Nene Valley Railway and this can be a great way to visit Peterborough as you can get a discount by showing your receipt and membership card proving you are staying at the site.

There are quite a few shops not too far away and you will get a sheet when checking in telling you how to get to them.

All in all a great place to visit and we will be going again but just watch out for the rabbits!

Second visit to Ferry Meadows this time in a motorhome instead of the camper. The field site is closed over the winter so we were on hardstandings which are well spaced and large. The staff are friendly and helpful. Even in winter the Nene Park is lovely with plenty of wild birds and long walks around the various lakes. Considering the time of year, the park was very busy. Well worth coming here and we will be back all being well some time in the future. Didn't use the facilities but the site is generally kept very smart and tidy looking; the reception staff will order a newspaper for you if you so wish. Only down side for me, is that you can hear road noise from the A47; didn't notice it in the summer when we last visited; no doubt more noticeable since the trees are still bare and there are no leaves to absorb the sound. It was fun though that the steam train ran just behind the pitch we were on, that did put a smile on my face! Enjoy.

This has to be one of our favourite sites. A typical caravan club site with excellent amenity blocks, facilities and friendly and helpful staff. As with any club site at least you have an idea of what the facilities will be like before you arrive.

This site is split in to two and for us, the best side is the east (grassy) side as this is less formal and generally attracts the families. Although there are about 20 or so hard standing pitches on this side the majority are on grass and appear to be more popular than the hard standing pitches.

The great attraction about this site is its location which is next to Nene Park, with its lovely walks and leisure facilities, and yet only a 20 minute bike ride from the city of Peterborough.

If you enjoy safe family cycling, as we do, you will love this site as even after many visits we still find many new and safe routes with some lasting several hours and the majority with pubs and shops on route.

There is also a family friendly pub within easy walking distance of the site selling fairly decent meals. Even nearer is the Nene Valley steam railway which travels from Wansford to Peterborough, stopping at Ferry Meadows on route.

All in all, this is a fantastic site and one we never seem to get bored of visiting, at any time of the year, although the east side is closed during the winter months.

This was our first visit to Ferry Meadows, but it certainly won't be the last. What a lovely well kept site it is. The facilities were all spotlessly clean. It was quite busy during our stay, but the pitches are quite big and there are several areas where there are no vans opposite.

The grassed area probably has larger pitches. Had we taken our grandchildren with us, we would have chosen that side of the site, as it had a larger play area. However we chose the hardstanding side, where the site reception is, as it seemed quieter.

There is plenty of wildlife on the site, many different species of birds, many squirrels, and although I am told that I exagerate sometimes, there really were hundreds of rabbits.

Nene Country Park which is adjacent to the site is beautiful, and we were lucky enough to have good weather to enjoy it. There is a golf course at the top of the road which approaches the site, and this is within walking distance. Also next to the golf course there is a pub, which serves meals all day.

If you turn left at the roundabout after leaving the site and travel a short way, there is a signpost to turn right to local shops, where you will find a row of shops with a mini supermarket ( handy if you run out of milk etc. If the site shop is closed ), a newsagents, and a take-away which is open nightly; it only takes about five minutes by car to get there, and the little village with thatched roofs is really pretty.

This site is ideal for couples and families alike, and has been very well thought out.

I can only echo all the previous praise for this excellent caravan club site. The wardens are very friendly and helpful; they organise checking in at the busy weekend period very efficiently.

Right next door there is the country park with acres of space to let the dogs exhaust themselves and two huge lakes with a great variety of wildfowl.

There are lots of walks direct from the site and we found the walk along the river to Castor the best. If you're lucky the steam railway will be running while you're there - check the timetable before you go.

You can get the train into Peterborough and you get 50% discount if you're staying at the site (it's also dog friendly - what a bonus!)

If you go back down to the main road and turn right you gat to Alwaston in a couple of miles and a pub called The Cuckoo which is highly to be recommended.

An excellent stay - we will certainly be returning!

Really nice site, especially if you like walking, cycling or have dogs. Nene park is literally just outside the entrance. Both sides of the park are nice but we felt the hardstanding pitches felt quite tight so we opted for the grass side, the site was quite quiet and pitches were spacious.

Beautiful park although they have a rabbit problem, hundreds of them. Lovely cycle ways which you can go all the way into Peterborough. There's a pitch n putt just next door which was good value and a Beafeater and garden centre. Both serving food and highly recommended. Wardens very helpful and friendly.

Only wish the weather had been better. But you can't have everything.

Just returned from 8 days at Ferry Meadows site and I have to say it rates as one of the best I have been to.

The toilets and showers were first class. The site itself is large with over 250 pitches.

The grass side is great if you have children as the play area is bigger, or there are hard standing pitches mainly on the west side although there are some on the east side (grass side).

The site is a short walk from Nene Park which has various walks around the lakes with a couple of cafe's dotted about.

There is a fish & chip van situated on the east side, which is open Wednesday 5-7, Friday 5-8 or Saturday 12-7. Food is very nice.

There is also a steam train that runs from the small station near the site to Peterborough, but check time table for running times. Also take your campsite receipt with you as it entitles you to a 50% discount on train fare.

I would also recommend a pub/restaurant in Alwalton called The Cuckoo.
