Excellent site. Well maintained basic facilities, provisions available at the farm and Katies van that sells bacon/sausage/egg butties in the morning to save the you the job of cranking up the gaz stove. The site is on the main route up Helvelyn so it attracts the walkers of all shapes and sizes.

Its a short stroll to the Travellers Rest Pub and a slightly longer one (10minutes) into Glenridding where there is another Pub and restaurant.
I can recommend the Ulswater Steamers but you may need to sell kidney to afford it! £25.00 for a family day pass is a bit steep so we bought a season ticket for £50 for the year that presents better value as we visit this site frequently.

Its a great place to stay and we have always been able to get a good pitch - you can use the BBC Cumbria Glenridding webcam to check the local weather before you depart.

A lovely site with fantastic views of the surrounding area. The owners and staff at the site are very friendly and very helpful. Toilets and showers kept clean and it only costs 20p for a shower. The village of Glenridding is only five minutes walk away where you can find several small shops. The only down side to this place is the cost of food in the shops ( I'll prob take more provisions from home next time I visit). There are 3 pubs in the area and again the meals are good but a bit pricey. I will definitely be visiting this site again.

We visited the site over the bank holiday weekend and had no trouble finding a nice pitch, the toilets / shower blocks were very clean and the staff were very helpful.
A 5min walk to the travellers rest is a must, serving great food and good ales after a strenuous walk around the hills.
We use the site often and will continue to do so

Enjoyed a really excellent weekend at this campsite. It catered amply for all of our needs, with the hot and sunny weather an added bonus. It was a really beautiful setting at the foot of the hills, with a little stream running through it.

Toilet and shower facilities were all very clean, and 20p for a shower gave you more than enough hot water. A washing up area was also equally well kept.

Turned up relatively late on a friday evening (8:30 ish) and had no problems at all paying and finding a place to pitch. Pitched right by a stand pipe which proved very handy. Plenty of flat spots to pitch your tent on.

Perfectly placed to head up Striding Edge and Helvelyn, or to wander in the other direction into Gillside itself (5mins along a riverside path). One very nice pub 'travellers rest' within about 5 mins walk from the campsite, and another by the lake.

A few shops can be found in the village selling your basics, but your nearest proper supermarket can be found in Penrith (approx. 20-25 min drive).

A shop on site sold your basics (cold drinks, milk etc) and a burger van type thing was available in the mornings to buy your breakfast from.

Our only slightly negative point about this campsite was that it seemed to get really quite windy at times. Perhaps this was down to its position in the valley. A few flimsier tents had collapsed on our return to the campsite after a day out walking (perhaps that was just becasue they hadn't been put up properly, because ours seemed to withstand the winds).

As mentionned in other reviews, there was no mobile reception for most networks (although Vodaphone seemed to be ok).

Just got back from a cold, wet and windy long w/end but still had a relaxing enjoyable time. This is a great little site basic but completely adequate. 5 mins from one end of the site and you are at a great little pub with good food available till 21.30 and 5 mins. from the other end of the site and your in Glenridding with its few shops another couple of bars and all that Ullswater has to offer. £51 for 3 nights 2 adults and 2 kids can't be bad I would have doubled it if they could have promised a bit of warm sunshine but that's British summer's for you.

Very nice, clean camp just three showers but ok if you try to miss peak times. Lovely walk to the village by the river. Not noisy at night but just enough low level noise so you know people are still alive. Local pub seems to only like people eating and not just drinking but pleasant enough.

We visited this site over the Bank Holiday. Got there early on the Friday as first come first served and picked a good spec. It did get busy but wasn't over crowded. Basic toilets/shower but clean and plenty of hot water. Owners very friendly and don't rush you off the site on the day of leaving. The bottom field next to the river can get very boggy and we had great fun watching people trying to get their cars out.
The site does seem to attract walkers instead of just campers which is obvious due to the location. Great site with good atomosphere, will definitley be going back.

Arrived Friday 7pm just after a downpour and was surprised just how dry the ground was (no standing water). Midges were hell (probably not helped by stream running along bottom of site. As it had been raining only 4x4's seemed able to get onto upper terraces so a bit crowded - no pitches marked out - but everyone fitted in OK. It was a bit breezier the second night so that solves the midges! Great for getting out straight onto the hill and good shop in glenridding reached by following stream through wood. (bit pricy mind.jar of salsa £3 - compared to £1.25 at Morrisons).
Great showers - only 20p and last ages. I intend returning mid week late season.

Nice campsite, smack in the middle of the mountains. Fantastic views from all round. Shower and toilets block is very clean, 20p for shower. 4 pot wash sinks. There is 3 area's for tents. The bigger bottom field does have the flater pitchers which get full quickly.
the other two are on a slope.

On the site there was Kate's gourmet kitchen chuk wagon. She did bacon, eggs, sausage ,tea, cofee etc. Very handy!

Back of the farm house is the path by Mires Beck towards Helvelyn and Striding Edge and other easy routes. Brilliant walk by Mires Beck, which gives you views over ulswater lake and Glenridding!

From the campsite, just a short walk down towards Glenridding there's a pub called Travelers Rest. A very traditional pub. They do a mixture of fine ales and lovely food, which they serve all day and quite late at night 10pm.

There's a couple for Hotels that have restrauants, One as a play area for children.

There's also a ferryboat that takes you arcoss the lake to Patterdale and other areas. You can take it easy and just walk round the lake. It as small beachy type coves to sit.

Don't forget to call at Aura Force waterfalls and streams. It's £2.50 to park, but is well worth a visit, you could spend all day here. Good for younger children, but not ideal for push chairs.

We spent a long weekend here camping and on arriving late Friday afternoon had plenty of choices where to pitch, there is a large flat area and also a sloping part which we pinched on but looks worse than it actually is. The owners where lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them, you don't need to book in advance and can pay night by night. Scenery from campsite was gorgeous and very tranquil as your at the foot of Helvellyn 3rd largest moutain in England which was a beautiful walk and owners of farm supplied us with a detailed map to help with the walk. Campsite did fill up quite a bit on Saturday which you would expect but it was never noisy or rowdy. There were 3 showers for each sexes both very clean, takes 20p's, the only draw back was due to high volume of usage on Saturday hot water couldn't keep up with damand so get your shower early, all the other days where fine. Burger van on site Saturdays and Sundays mornings for a breakfast in a bun. The village is only 5 minutes walk away along the stream with a tourist information centre, 2 tea houses, 2 general groceries stores which stock everything you could possibly need and 3 pubs in the village - Ratchers, Ramblers rest and the travellers rest ( food there was gorgeous ). We loved the place, had a fantastic weekend and would definatley go again.
