Gone off this site completely now, which is a great shame as we love the surrounding area for walking

Firstly Keswick is getting way too busy, it has always been pretty busy but this year traffic was a complete nightmare !

Secondly the site itself seems to be in a permanent state of flood, yeah its the lakes, yeah you expect a lot of rain but it seems despite all the money that must be coming in, the site are investing little in drainage, in fact the hardstandings were only an inch or 2 of gravel on top of mud. Every unit we could see had a pond in their tent or awning.

Just returned from 3 night stay at Keswick. Lovely site which is in a perfect situation close to Keswick town and all the shops and pubs and good market.

We arrived just before 12 noon but still had to queue for our pitch. We were offered a choice of a couple of pitches and was allowed to park our motorhome whichever way round we wanted for the best view.

Staff friendly, only downside the toilet blocks are in need of paint and brightening up a bit.

We were parked on grass and after 24 hours of torrential rain we were concerned that we would be able to drive off, but no problem.

However the were many tents and awnings that were flooded and people were emptying water out from their tents and trying to dry wet clothes and equipment.

Definitely will return.

We have just returned from a lovely 6 night stay on Keswick C&CC site, the site is well kept by the wardens with a large number of hard and grass standings. The wardens work very hard keeping the site well kept and they are very helpful.

Access to the site is down a narrow lane which I won't like to pass another tourer going the other way, we had about a 15 minute wait at the barrier whilst the wardens showed other units in front of us to there pitches.

The toilet block is clean but is looking a little tired now and could do with a tidy up. We didn't queue at any time for the showers or the toilets, with the site nearly full I was surprised at.

The site has a wifi if people require it and we were able to pick up a number of TV channels via the aerial with no problems with reception.

The site is very easy to find from Keswick and it is a ideal base to visit the likes of Borrowdale, grasmere and Windermere. The site is very close to Booths supemarket so you don't need to worry about taking loads of food with you.

There is a market on a Saturday and Thursday which we love to visit to stock up on the Mr Vikki's curry pastes and chutneys (very nice). In Keswick it's self there is a good mix of pubs and cafes/restaurants for eating out.

This is a popular site and we will be returning here in the future

This was our second visit to this site, largely because of its location. It's wonderfully placed for Derwentwater and has great views of Cat Bells and High Spy which are easily accessible for walking.

There are still some disappointments however. One or two previous reviews have commented upon the fact that the toilet facilities are a bit run down. Not only that, but in my experience they don't come up to the cleanliness of other C&CC sites.

They usually pride themselves on the high ratings of these facilities but Keswick doesn't match that. If you're prepared to overlook that then most other things are positive.

We found the stewards cheery and helpful and the town is a short walk away and there's no shortage of walking/climbing.

We stopped at the C&CC site in Keswick for two nights at the beginning of June. On arrival, we were given a choice of pitches, although the site was very full. We opted for a pitch away from the children’s play area. The site is very large, but seems well looked after by the numerous staff. The pitch, although classed as grass, was part shale, and the grassy bits also had shale just below the surface. Thus we needed all the ‘rock-pegs’ we had brought with us.

The site is right on the edge of Derwentwater, one of the many beautiful lakes in the area and you need to walk along the edge of the lake to get to the loos. The loo block was excellent and was kept clean at all times despite the number of campers. We only used one of the two blocks on site, but during the scheduled cleaning times, one of the blocks is always open. On site is a basic shop, but it is only a two minute walk into Keswick town, which has all the facilities you would expect.

Over the same weekend there was Keswick beer festival in the next field. This was sold out, but we were able to hear the bands clearly from our trailer-tent. The music stopped at 11.00pm sharp and there was next to no noise on site after that, even from the campers who had attended the festival.

On the plus side, we found the site staff always happy & helpful, the maintenance was constant and the setting delightful. Our main whinge (which granted – we had a choice) was the fact that we wanted to stay on the Friday & Saturday nights, but the site has a 3-nights minimum booking policy for pitch with hook-up.

We had to pay for a third night which we couldn’t stop, and this was not a bank-holiday weekend. We felt we were being held by the short & curlies. This was the only thing which tainted the weekend but we had a choice NOT to book. For that reason, I doubt we will return for a weekend break to this otherwise well run site.

Keswick camp site is definitely a TOP site. Camping on the waters edge of Derwentwater in the summer is more than worth it, ducks and geese coming up to the tent for bread. The toilet and shower facilities are second to none and are cleaned to a very high standard. The staff are great. A 3min walk gets you to the supermarket and main shopping street with pubs that allow dogs in and plenty of camping equipment shops.

On market day there is a small but varied market selling home made foods and crafts.

The area is ideal for walking and cycling - or just lazing by the tent with a few beers.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 6 nights during the mountain festival. The location was perfect as it`s within walking distance of the shops, the lake and the mountains. The wardens were very friendly even though they were cycling round in the rain! The views from the site over Derwent water are stunning and I could quite easily get lost in my thoughts on the bank of the lake.

This isn`t a bad site at all, but there are a few minor faults as it`s clearly an old site.

The outdoor sinks for washing dishes, only half of them had running water, and some only had luke warm water so there was a battle for the few hot water sinks. The sinks were also underneath the windows to the toilet cubicles which often forced you to experience some revolting smells.

There was often a queue for toilet cubicles as there wasn`t enough of them, there was always a queue for the hand dryer as there`s only 1 (in the toilet block I used) and there was a similar problem with the water supply to the indoor taps too.

The showers were decent, nice temperature and pressure and the water stays on rather than having to push a button every 10 seconds. The wash facilities were always pretty clean and so was the site in general.

The threat of evacuation if water levels rise too much is always a worry as the week we were there, there was some persistent rain.

I would like to go again but I think I`d rather do 1 or 2 nights without electricity next to the lake as the electric hook up pitches were a bit random where we were and nobody seemed to know their boundaries.

On the whole, I do like the site but for the money they charge, you`d expect all facilities to be fairly trouble free. (oh, and don`t drink the water straight from the tap, it`s foul!)

Site is easy to find but as its situated in the middle of Keswick its a busy route in! The narrow 2-lane entry/exit system to the site also creates some waiting around. The site is very big and busy, with no privacy hedges or trees - just one big open area and one smaller area at the back. This made for some lovely views of the lake but there's no barrier against the wind which is keen at times! We got put right in the middle on a very busy bank holiday weekend but had no choice of pitch as the site was almost full and we needed two pitches together. The lake was lovely and our dogs enjoyed playing in it.

We experienced some issues trying to erect our awning as the wardens strictly enforce a 6m gap between hardstanding pitches. In the end we didn't use it as we did not want to move our motorhome to the outside edge of our hardstanding pitch. We could not even put up a windbreak which we felt was petty. We had to have a hardstanding pitch because we are a motorhome so felt some give-and-take would have been nice.

Keswick town is a 5-min walk and is a lively, bustling market town with plenty of pubs and of course the obligatory outdoor clothing shops! Not sure if we will visit this site again but if you're pitching on grass you shouldn't have any problems.

This was our first time on this site (highly recommended by camping friends!) and. We loved it! It was probably the biggest site we'd ever stayed on and with it being Easter it was packed full. Campers seemed to come and go constantly throughout the day and evening.

We had pre-booked our pitch back in November 2010 and had been advised to book a hardstanding pitch with no awning if we wanted a pitch with great views of Derwentwater. And that's exactly what we got.

The site is well signposted once you reach Keswick. We travelled up from Bowness on the A591 (a route NOT recommended by the C&CC but the CC wardens at Bowness said it was OK - and it was of course, in fact it was a fantastic road with amazing views and vistas!). The lane down to the site is small but OK. There was a small queue when we arrived just after 12noon (earliest check in time). We were told to check in with the office and then wait in turn. The wardens (on bikes!) then show you to your pitch. We had a choice of 3 pitches on arrival but chose the first one we were offered - the view of the lake and the fells was amazing.

As I said previously the site itself is massive. I never thought the toilet/shower block would cope, but it did - I never had to queue once! OK it's a little dated but it was regularly cleaned so no complaints from here. There's a small under-cover washing up area and plenty of service points (water and bins) dotted around the site. The reception sells a few essentials but with Booths supermarket just 5 minutes walk from the site you'd never go without anything! Good information room attached to the reception.

The walk into Keswick back down the lane takes 5 minutes and it's a lovely doggie friendly town. They are even allowed in some shops. Lots of places to eat and drink. We sat outside a coffee shop looking up towards Moot Hall one morning, people watching in the sunshine - glorious! We ate in the Oddfellows Arms (upstairs restaurant) one evening. Good choice of real ales - rubbish cider (which I now consider as the norm up North?! - maybe I'm just spoilt living in Cornwall????). We had a 3-course meal (plenty of choice and good portions) for £12.95 each and it came with a FREE bottle of wine! Bargain. We also picked up a chinese takeaway from a place opposite Booths (can't remember the name of it). It was OK but not as good as home!

Hope Park is worth a wander around. Full of Spring colour when we were there. From there you can walk around the lake to the Keswick Launch. Wonderful area with fantastic views. You can continue around the lake from there - the views were just stunning. We caught the launch to Ashness Bridge (£1.95 pp each way - dogs go FREE!) and walked up to the bridge. Fantastic - again, the views were just stunning.

All in all, we had 3 fabulous, glorious, blue sky days here (it always helps!) and we'd love to go back soon.Perhaps NOT during school holidays next time?!

We spent 2 weeks at the beginning of April at the Camping and Caravanning Club Keswick site. We were 2 adults and Max our collie.

Although it is a large and busy site it is right on the edge of Derwentwater with lake access and stupendous views to the lake and in every direction to the surrounding fells. The dog-walk along the shores of Derwentwater gives spectacular views southwards along the lake.

It has a main camping field on the lakeside and a more sheltered one at the rear of the site. It has 2 toilets blocks, with washing machines and tumble driers in one. The toilet blocks were always clean but a little dated and both quite a walk from the far end of the site. As CDP points were in the toilet block this, also, meant carrying the loo tank a long way to empty it. There are a good number of service points with fresh water, waste water and bins scattered around the site.

There is a small children's play area on the main field. Outdoor games, eg swingball, can be hired from Reception. Reception sells a few basic foodstuffs and ice creams. It, also, has an information room and lending library.

The site's wi-fi system can be assessed by either buying a voucher from Reception or 'paying' online. I did not use the site wi-fi as I had a '3' dongle. Mobile phone reception was excellent ('Virgin' and '3'). TV reception was said to be not so good but we used our satellite system and got a very wide range of programmes via 'Freeview'

If you do go to Keswick CCC Site try to get a hardstanding pitch as the campsite can get rather wet and muddy if there is a lot of rain. Ours was very wet when we arrived. The site's lake shore position means that it is prone to flooding. When we arrived the wet weather meant that the site was a the lowest of the 3-tier flood alert system. Our pitch was very muddy at first but then improved in the beautiful sunny weather that we had.

The wardens were always very helpful, despite the site being very busy. They charged our battery on 2 occasions, we were having problems, and, also, put our frozen food in one of the site's freezers whilst our was out of use due to the battery/charger problems.

All of the amenities of Keswick are within 5 minutes easy walk. Keswick is a lovely town with lots of shops, especially for walking equipment, and restaurants. It, also, has several museums, a classic cinema, a theatre and a wave-type swimming pool. All of these indoor amenities can be very useful on rainy days. There are several good fish and chips shops too!

The markets in the main street on Friday and Saturday sell a wide variety of things including local crafts and foods. Booths' supermarket is only about 5 minutes' walk from the site and sells a very wide range of locally produced and specialist foodstuffs but we found it very expensive.

The National Park Information Centre in the central Moot Hall is a mine of information. The only downside of Keswick is that although there are lots of carparks there are, also, lots of cars! We left our car on the campsite for most of our stay and mainly used public transport and our feet! There is, also, good cycling around Keswick including along the old railway line which is now a cycle / foot path.

It is possible to walk across the National Trust's Crow Park, or the adjacent Hope Park, from near the site's main gate to reach the main departure point for the Keswick Launch. We bought a launch day ticket, discounted at the site reception to c£8 per adult. This ticket means that one can hop on and off the launch as often as you like including using it to get to the beginning of many beautiful lake and mountain walks. You can, also, walk from one launch stop and return to another.

The site warden explained that the 'trick' of getting the best use of the ticket is not to return to the Keswick Launch Landing Stage until you are finished as they collect your ticket there. We travelled round the lake anti-clockwise to the last but one stop and then got off and caught the another boat going clockwise so we got nearly 2 complete circuits of the lake. The larger launchs are more comfortable but it is fun getting splashed at the front of the smaller ones.

There are a variety of level walks along the Derwentwater shore ranging from the lovely flat, short walk from the Launch landing stage to Friar's Crag and up to a complete circuit of the Lake.

We took a lovely drive along the Borrowdale Valley and over the, very steep, Honister Pass. This passes the Honister Slate Mine with its deep mine tours and 'Via ferrata' climbing route. We then drove past the lovely Buttermere and Crummock Water. We then stopped at the interesting town of Cockermouth on the way back to Keswick. We took the opportunity to get some cheaper food shopping at the Cockermouth Aldi before driving back along the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake on the A66.

There are good bus services from the the town centre, next to Booths, and this includes a regular service by open-topped double decker along the Borrowdale valley to the village of Grange. This again could be used as a good way of getting to and from some excellent walks.

All in all a lovely site in an outstanding position with lots of things to nearby whatever the weather. The route to the site is an easy one. We travelled up the M6 to junction 40 and then drove along the A66 to Keswick. The route around the edge of the town centre is well signed and fine for towing.

The drive to the site is quite long and narrow. Arrivals have to queue at the entrance barrier until they signed-in. This means that the exit lane is used by resident campers both leaving and arriving and so great care is necessary when driving in or out. Arrivals are escorted to their allocated pitch by one of the wardens.
