This was our 1st visit to this excellent campsite. The staff on site are faultless and will do anything they can to help. We arrived the weather was absolutely atrocious, the warden not only directed us to our pitch but helped us site the caravan too. We needed gas but didn't have cash on us, (as with many sites gas is cash only no cards) they let us have a bottle & pay the following morning once we had been into town. The facilities on site, as others have commented, are a little dated in comparison to other CCC sites. The toilet and shower block was heated & clean. Only complaint was nearest block to us closed! but I have a feeling that this may have be for refurbishment. The kids play area could do with some TLC. Only 5 Min's walk into town which is handy if you want a meal & and drink.

This was my second visit to this excellent campsite. The facilities on site, as others have commented, are a little dated in comparison to other CCC sites; nevertheless they are excellent in comparison to some of the smaller sites around the Lakes. The toilet and shower blocks are heated, clean and the showers always have hot water. The staff on site are faultless and will do all they can to help.
You won't find a better site in terms of location: Keswick has many shops, pubs and places to eat and there are several excellent walks directly from the site. The local public transport in the area is good, with buses running through the Lakes to Lancaster via Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere. You can also catch a bus to Seatoller and climb ScaFell from there.

This is the second time we have visited this site. We love the location of the site, being so close to the centre of Keswick and also so handy to do walks that we love.
As other users of the site have commented the toilet facilities are a little dated however they are always spotless. We tend to use are own facilities in the van so it does not bother us to much. The dog walk on the site is great and our labrador is always going in the lake for a swim.
There is so much to do around the site also and you can walk up skidaw direct from the site.
The cost of the site is also very good compared to what we have paid at other sites. The site could do with more water points dotted around but that is being a little picky. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful.
I highly recomend this site as a good base to explore the north lakes.

Excellent site - well managed facilities, quiet and hassle-free. Location is ideal for the Northern Lakes and being on the shores of Derwent water overlooking Cat Bells is idyllic.
Visited this site 6 times in last 6 years and always is my first choice location in the Lake District.
There is a small park with sings and climbing frame for the kids but no area for ball games - that's about the only drawback for a young family.
Walking distance to the shops in Keswick and the bus stop for those not driving.

We love keswick so much we return to this site year after year. Nothing can be done about the flooding risk because of the lake but it is time the showers and toilets had an overhall whilst I cannot fault the cleanliness they are shabby and I took to wearing wellies because the ladies showers were constantly flooded. On the whole we found the wardens friendly and helpful but the biggest problem we had was lack of communication. One afternoon we were without electricity for approx three hours after a frantic checking that we were still plugged in had not blown a fuse etc we asked at the office and were told the whole site was off. A blackboard outside the office letting campers know what is going on is always a good idea it also saves the wardens having to keep repeating themselves. On saturday night the rugby club next door had a fire work display. Totally unexpected and over a week before bonfire night our dogs and many more onsite were hysterical. A warning would have been great we could have been prepared, some people had gone out and left pets alone i'm sure they wouldn't have donehad they known. The rugby club said they were going to put posters up but never got round to it. The wardens did know what was going on and had been informing new arrivals but we had been there for days already. I don't expect them to come knocking on every caravan door but again a blackboard announcement would have helped. Often on a caravan site it is the little things that make a stay special, it works the other way too. We had a good holiday and will return to this site as its location is first class but I can't say I am a satisfied customer on this occasion.

The best site I've ever been to! It's huge but relatively peaceful. Very friendly wardens and excellent facilities. Loads to do in the area and a 5 minute walk from the centre of Keswick. Great if you have kids and/or dogs but take bicycles as the trip to the loo is a long one if you are camped on the island.

We were really disappointed with this site ,we expected better from a C&CC site ! The shower block was dirty and it wasn't just because of it being a busy period ,there was dirt that had obviously been there a very long time on pipes and ledges ,also the ceilings were covered in mildew and mould ! The disabled facilities were adequate but could have been better ,there was only one combined disabled shower /loo/washroom for the whole site ,which is very large ! However this room was kept clean and was well equipped with a high toilet ,shower ,basin ,chair ,an alarm and also an electric heater . The site its self has very poor drainage .On arrival we were informed the site was " A little soggy " .After we had paid we were taken to the separate non EHU field and the condition were dire! Although the campsite are not responsible for the bad weather they are responsible for the way they handle it or 'dont' handle it .Our pitch and most others were flooded and very muddy ,there was over a foot of water in most places ,making conditions very difficult ! Very little was done to improve the conditions in this field and although the rest of the site was provided with boards ,we were pretty much on our own ! On speaking to several wardens ,they informed us that because that field is under several feet of water every winter " we don't bother with it " But still they charge people to stay there ? We will return to Keswick again ( although maybe not his site ),we loved the area and there are some fantastic walks ,the walk around lake had some breath taking views ,and being only 9 ish miles ,it was easy enough for children too . Keswick seemed a very busy and bustling town full of tourists ( obviously peak season ) with plenty of stores for all you camping and other needs and being only a short walk away from the site ( literally to the end of the lane ) You will find you hardly need to use the car ,unless exploring further afield .

Just came back from this site and can totally agree with every ones comments about it. It is set in one of the most picturesque locations around and the staff are helpful without being intrusive. It also had a lovely family feel to it without ever being rowdy. We camped our tent on the area set aside for trailer tents and tents requiring EHU,which is just down from the crescent of a field overlooking the lake. ( this area is mainly for small tents up to 2 - 3 persons ) and arrived just after one of the wettest periods the area has had. Although there were ruts where trailer tents had been stuck, these were quickly repaired and the ground dried quite quickly. The site has a small shop selling not more than sweets, milk, butane, propane and papers but this isn't a hardship as there is a supermarket (Booths) just a 5 minute walk from the site. This shop is excellent ! really nice produce and very reasonable. There is also a Co-op and various other shops, so if you run out of anything there is no need to panic. Keswick itself is a lovely town, very picturesque and is an excellent base for walkers and ramblers (of which there are plenty) The site facilities are fine and clean enough, but with a little foresight, should have been placed further apart.( both wash areas are placed beside reception at the front gate) There is a fair hike to go to the loo or wash your dishes (not in the same water obviously !) if you are placed in the furthest field, but this is only a minor grumble. I would definitely return to this site in the future and would certainly recommend it to anyone.

We've only just got the camper so this was our second trip. We arrived on spec during the very severe (rainy) weather. This is normally a very busy campsite, so we found out, booking is a must! Doh! But we were lucky - they had a few cancellations and we got in for two nights. Now we got to see why. The staff were really helpful and accommodating and the site was fantastic. Fantastically equipped, immaculate toilet blocks (cleaned twice/day). Pat of the site has fab views over Derwentwater too, bonus (although we weren't THAT lucky!). Site shop sells local produce and Keswick town centre is only 5 mins away. Despite the non-stop torrential rain, the site was holding up reasonably well. Campers and caravans could only be put onto hard-standings - fair enough. The ground was water-logged but campable. The site is flat and the ducks loved it too! (They'll be at any pitch with a sign of life looking for their next meal! - but they're not a nuisance). Overall - recommended (camping & caravanning club site)

I doubt if there is a better location for a campsite anywhere in the UK; Skiddaw out of one window and the full length of Derwentwater out of the other. The mist over the lake first thing in the morning was simply breathtaking. I don't know why, but the site of people watching TV in their caravans with such spectacular scenery all around just looked out of place We visited over the Easter which of course was busy, but not overpowering. The toilets, as has been mentioned, were spotless and didn't seem to ever be too crowded. The play area got a little noisy, but not offensively so. The shop, I found to be a little lacking, although with Keswick so close, this didn't seem to be a problem Keswick is a five minute walk away and is interesting, although busy in the high season. The boat service is also very good; A tip; instead of walking through town to reach it, turn right out of the site, through the gate on your left just past the Oval site and across the common. A round the lake ticket is about £6.50 and you can jump on and off as often as you please. The walks around the West side of the Lake (under Cat Bells) are quieter than in the Borrowdale and reachable either by car, or by the boat service. Keswick is ideal for visiting the more popular areas to the South such as Windermere and Ambleside, but to the North of the A66, the Caldbeck Fells and the Helvelyn range are just as spectacular. Another tip, if you are visiting the Caldbeck Fells, stop off at the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket with it's own brewery on site and large range of real ales. All in all, a clean but busy site set amongst specatular scenery
