I have just returned from a one night stay here with a group of my friends and loved Thisteldown and cant wait to come back in the summer next year, as this place is a little gem!

The main feature I wanted for camping with this group was a firepit, and this campsite has plenty and nothing beats a good campfire.

The owner was lovely and charming and extremely helpful. The site is magical and so much to see and explore. Facilities are basic, but we knew that already and more facilities are coming for next year.

The lower valley pitching means you cant take your car near the tents, but you can book a lift on the 'Rhino' to have your kit taken down for 2.50 which I would recommend!

Definitely coming back next year!

Excellent camp site. We camped with 4 tents on the lowest meadow, near the badger sets. The owners were very polite and helpful, and sold wood for the fire pit. We also had use of a BBQ in the form of an oil drum which was nice. The toilets were a compostable type, with the urinals boasting a fine view over the fields as you stand! We walked to the NT property through the woods during the day which is well worth doing. I would definitely return here as it was relaxing, encourages fires, and had a very good atmosphere.

Shhh! Don't tell. This one is a gem.

A farm turned over to visitors centre, turned over to campsite. If you don't mind basic facilities it's great.

47 for 2 adults/3 children for 2 nights, including firewood and tractor-ride to our pitch. That's expensive for no shower, but the site makes it worthwhile.

Beautiful setting with fields dotted down the slopes of a hill, the main camping area an amphitheatre between clumps of woodland, and tents spread out into little separate settlements over many acres giving a feeling of more space.

The kids get umpteen acres to wander into - a totally different experience from most campsites' 2 minutes run to the swings. The farm is dotted with (modern) henges, animal bones, springs. We saw hares and foxes but think the tales of big cats may be exaggerated. Deep fire pits and masses of wood to burn.

The enthusiastic and welcoming owner Richard, after years of sustainable farming, is planning many things, first up being solar-powered showers. The new composting loos are so solidly built they are better than many sites' conventional shower blocks. It's all part of a vision.

There's never silence, but given the noise comes from the wind turbine on the hill 1/2 mile away, hey, that's the future. The motocross that meets next door 4 or 5 times a year is more of an issue, partying at night & scrambling from 9am. You can check on www.Amca.Uk.Com whether the Dursley Motocross is planning a meet at the Tinkley Lane, Nympsfield site on your chosen weekend.

Will be back, hopefully with a few more facilities ready next year to make for a longer stay.

Like stepping back in time to the good old days,

Space, Tranquillity, Fresh Air, Thistledown has it all. Mega large interesting site, great for young children to run around in safety.

Could be boring for teenagers who are not in the company of other kids. Toilets are Portaloo type, other types under construction.

The owners, Richard and son Ryan, Work hard to keep things just right, and go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable.

Shopping at Nailsworth 2 miles, Tesco, Morrisons and other nice local shops.

Endless number of interesting places to go, and things to do all within 0-25 mile.

The whole area is of outstanding beauty, enjoy.

Lovely campsite with basic amenities in a very peaceful, tranquil spot with beautiful woodland outlook. The kids enjoyed the few animals and the woodland trails and the helpful advise given to them on what to look out for.
The surrounding area provided us with good friendly pubs and good facilities / eg shops. We stayed a short time but we shall be back to enjoy this place for a little longer.
