Perfect for a quiet holiday on the Isle of Wight with no club house type of thing but good facilities and good location for visiting Sandown / Shanklin / Ryde.

Three camping fields. The ‘bottom’ field is the smallest and reserved for club rallies. The ‘middle’ field is very large, level, surrounded by trees, with a toilet block in one corner. The pitching regime is informal and there is room for the largest tents. The ‘top’ field is a little smaller, but again level and has ample room for the largest tents, and its own toilet block. This is my favourite, surrounded by trees, somehow has a real cozy ‘away from it all’ feel. For me, camping / caravanning at its best!

The w.C. / shower (20p token) blocks, whilst not the most modern, were clean; well decorated and well maintained.

Dog walking area is a lovely meadow, nice place to go even if you do not have a dog!

Extremely good value at £5 / person / night; or £6 / person / night with ehu. (£6.50 / £7.50 in the school summer holiday period.)

The nearest beaches are at St Helens & Bembridge. There are plenty of family oriented eating places in the locality, but I feel I must give a special mention to the Yarbridge Inn, Brading. (CAMRA IOW Pub of the Year 2006, 2007, 2008, good food too.)

We’ve visited the IOW several times now, just a few general notes on the ferries. 1) We found that there is no need to worry if you are early or late for your booked crossing. Our experience is that as long as you have a valid ticket, they will get you on the first crossing with available space 2) We found Red Funnel consistently cheaper than Wight Link. 3) Check the inclusive Ferry / Camping packages offered by Red Funnel on their website. 4) Check the inclusive Ferry / Camping packages offered by many sites. 5) Red Funnel accepts Tesco vouchers on a 4x face value basis.

Just returned from a Bank Holiday's camping at Beaper Farm. We were in a group with two other families so the ability to pitch where we wanted (though some fields were not yet open, presumably they will be later in the season) was great. Bit of a slope in places but not too bad.

Shop not open - again probably would be in high season. Only two washing up sinks for the whole site. Toilets OK, clean enough but a bit smelly. Some cubicles marked as 'Not in operation'. Same in the shower block again only 3 out of 6 in operation. Shower block had been given a lick of paint (you could still smell it) but the overall impression was of facilities that have not been maintained very well.

Long way to toilets from further parts of the site when second block not open. Road is noisy as site is close to a long downhill straight that motorists and motorcyclists seems to want to hare down !

No recycling facilities for rubbish.

Pluses: Lots of space, especially for children.

Friendly owners. Lovely setting. Good play area. Tesco's close.

Ryde very close and not far to plenty of beautiful countryside and lovely beaches.

We met up with the IOW DA of the C and CC for a two week stay.

First week we were running on battery and gas.

Second week EHU.

In a few words it was great.

Lovely site, good facilities and reasonably priced.

Pros. Locate very close to the tescos.

Showers and washing facilities excellent.

Toilets good and clean.

Site well looked after.

Views of the south eastern part of the IOW.

Could cycle to the sea if you wanted.

It's on the Isle of Wight, only eclipsed in my heart by my birthplace.

Cons. Watch what times you travel on the ferry.

Road can be noisy but as with all these things you block it out.

If you are considering the Wight (and if I were you I'd book soon as it will book solid this year methinks) then consider Beaper.

This lovely campsite is based just off the A3055 between Ryde and Brading. Despite being next to the road this campsite is very quiet. After my second visit I thought it was about time I reviewed it.

There are many well sheltered pitches with the only regimental pitches being for power hook up. There are plenty of surrounding fields to exercise your dogs and despite its close proximity to Ryde it feels very rural.

I looked at a few other campsites on my travels on the island and all of the ones I saw seemed to either be hemmed in, exposed or loads of draconian rules and regulations complete with snotty attitude Mini-Hitler to enforce them. At Beaper Farm you book in at reception and then you are left to get on with camping and enjoying yourself. No wardens checking your tickets all the time, you are left alone unless of course you request help.

The owners are friendly and very helpful. My friend managed to burn himself quite seriously with hot fat on the first night and had to go to hospital in an ambulance. The owners were there concerned at what had happened and reassured me that if there was anything at all they could do to help then go knock at the house. I also managed to run out of fuel and was lent some petrol to get the car started. I am mentioning all this as I think this really says a lot for the ethos of this campsite, it shows that they care.

The shower blocks are clean with 5 token operated showers. Hot water whatever time of day I had a shower and with the 20p token you can shower for ages! Also sinks with free hot water. Separate toilet block also clean and plenty of toilets and more sinks!

A lot of people have mentioned the huge Tesco in Ryde. Yes, its convenient, I had a few essentials from there myself. But I would appeal to anyone visiting Wight (or indeed anywhere) to sample the local meats, dairy and vegetable produce. There is an excellent farm shop in Arreton about 6 miles away - I had some amazing lamb chops, sausages & cheese! And for all you fellow scrumpy lovers there is a cider shop in Godshill which sell lovely cider amongst lots of other goodies & produce. There are many more farm shops scattered around who sell at reasonable prices.

If you are looking for a nice quiet, reasonably flat campsite with friendly caring staff at a very reasonable price, this is for you.

This is a fantastic campsite. It doesn't claim to be anything it isn't.

There is so much space. We stayed the last full week in August over the bank holiday and the nearest tent was at least 20 metres away.

The owners are very friendly, always happy to help.

The toilet block and shower block are somewhat dated, yet if you want up to the minute then you won't find a campsite this good value. The facilities are clean and serviceable.

There are washing up facilities and laundry washing machines too.

Our 6 and 9 year olds loved the play area, yet we did need to fully supervise our nearly 3 year old here - as you would expect to a child so young. There was lots of space for kite flying and general running around. This is family camping as is should be.

Just up the road is the largest Tesco supermarket you've ever seen! East Cowes ferry terminal (Red Funnel - vehicle crossing to Southampton) is just half an hour away. From Beaper Farm to Yarmouth is approx 45 minutes.

We loved Yaverland Beach just a couple of miles down the road next to Sandown, excellent long stay car park and toilet/washing facilities to clean the dark cocoa powder like sand off. Opposite the Zoo and just down the road from Dinosaur Isle.

We will definitely return here next year. A thoroughly enjoyable time had by all.

Great site and we visited last 2 week of August and the site had lots of units but never felt busy.

Showers are always clean and hot (20p for a token) and a good play area for children, although during our visit was rather monopolised by older teenagers sitting on the swings until all hours.

The owner is very helpful and we had a late ferry but we were allowed to stay as long as we needed to on the pitch at no extra cost, in effect giving us an extra day on holiday.

Lots to do in the area and Ryde beach is just up the road, a fabulous site that we will be returning to.
