This is a special place. Our second visit and we will be back. The sense of space with the open fields is fantastic. The welcome and the service provided by Vincent and Constance is perfect - calm, relaxed and friendly. The food is wonderful and much of it sourced from the fabulous gardens on site.

This is not a commercial site - it is about having the time and space to relax and play in a quiet and beautiful environment. It is about respecting your surroundings and others.

30 mins drive to spectacular beaches. Less to lakes in which you can swim. Day trips to Bayonne, Biarritz and St Jean de Luz are worthwhile or hop over the border to Spain.

Toilets and showers are quirky but clean. WiFi works at no charge. Very reasonable charges to camp with hook up. Short drive to the motorway (4 miles) but far enough away so that you can't hear it. Can't fault this site.

Very pleasant site, similar to the New Forest (secluded spots in the forest). Facilities good, though the owners were getting ready for the 'French rush', nothing was too much trouble for them. We stayed a week, but had to return to UK early, but the relaxing atmosphere was good. The beaches were within easy reach though if you required a beach holiday a site nearer the coast would be beneficial.

Overall impressions were good, particularly at this time of year as I believe the site is highly popular with the French, though we did meet 2 or 3 Dutch couples.

We loved Camping du Toy! Quirky, relaxed, friendly, spacious, good facilities.

Lovely large non-commercial site. Spacious pitches in clearings in the woods. Great communal barbecue area. Unique children's adventure playground.

Quirky sculptures hidden around the site. Converted farm buildings for large gatherings. Friendly welcome from Vincent. Beautiful mosaics in the showers and washing up area.

Free wifi.

Very flat surrounding landscape: stunning views from campsite across fields to forest.

Herm is quite a dreary town but it apparently has an amazing municipal spa/swimming pool.

LOVE this site! It has a very special vibe. We only stayed 2 nights but wish we had stayed here longer and travelled to the beaches nearby. We had a pitch in a clearing amongst the trees, was able to hang the hammock at last! There was wifi but when we were there it was a bit intermittent. The toilets were a bit smelly and you bring your own loo roll but who cares! its so lovely. Sometimes these little foibles are cancelled out by a magic location. The kids played so happily on the slightly wonky trampoline, the well-used zip wire and the long chunky rope swing. Then they had even more fun collecting sticks and turning them in to instruments. The owners were helpful and friendly and the site was peaceful and well spread out. There is a communal eating area, where you can barbecue and socialise. The stars were amazing and one night we wondered out onto the field for an uninterrupted 180 degree view of the heavens. A very pretty, natural, chilled and relaxed site. Just how I like camping. The owners have put some real love into it and it makes all the difference. May be a bit too rustic for those who like their sites all singing and dancing!

We booked this site for two weeks during the French national holiday period, which was an inspired move given that there were just two pitches available for a touring caravan when we arrived.

We are used to hedged pitches or CL type fields so this 'aire naturelle' was a first for us, despite having caravanned in France for 25 years or more.

We arrived on one of the hottest days of the summer and drove in to the campsite across sunbaked grass tracks(hay), to the soundtrack of cicadas, to find campers sheltering under whatever canvas or tree cover they could find. Wondering whether we had made a wise choice, given there is no pool here (just miles of beautiful beach and surf at Messanges some 25 minutes away) we pitched our caravan in semi-shade on the fringe of the site, looking out over straw coloured fields towards one of the many pine plantations in the region.

During our stay we noticed that the majority of visitors were under canvas - and that the majority were French. The latter is just as we like it since this ensures we try out our limited French and do not take the easy option of conversing solely with other British, Dutch or Belgian families.

We soon grew to love the campsite. Firstly, there are the distinctly idiosyncratic facilities - clearly lovingly created by Vincent. Thinking about it, this is the first boutique campsite we have visited and my favourite was definitely 'la douche bleu et blanche'

Secondly, the facilities for children were super. Forget the red and blue metal of ELC play equipment. Here you get a log fort and slide, a zip wire, hammmock swings, a much used trampoline and of course the usual table tennis and boules facilities, not to mention a volleyball, badminton and tennis net. Whilst we were there the young and young at heart enjoyed a football tournament one evening once the heat had dissipated.

A feature we have not come across before was a much used communal barbecue and eating area, which invited much socialising. Despite this, the site was often quiet after 10pm although the occasional soiree lasted until 11. 30pm.

A lovely feature on a couple of the hottest days was the sprinkler system Vincent set up. This may well have been to water the grass but was thoroughly enjoyed by children and adults alike throughout the afternoon.

We were very sad to leave the site - which once the French holiday period was over was virtually deserted. It seems so sad that facilities such as these have such a short season. If it could be transported to the UK it would be a hugely popular site for months on end. And, of course, if we had the weather this site is used to. Well we wouldn't need to travel to France!

Finally, I must mention the free wifi we enjoyed from the comfort of our caravan some 150 metres or more away from the acceuil. Who would have thought we would become so hooked on the internet that access to it plays an important role in our choice of campsite!

Thank you Vincent and family for a lovely, relaxing two weeks on a most friendly campsite.
