Returned to this site in order to have a base to visit the World Championship Athletics and it was perfect! You would not believe you were in London and central London was a 30 minute train ride away. Toilet blocks very clean and plentiful supply of hot water. No electric hookups for tents but a large area to choose a pitch. Best not to leave food in the tent as there are lots of interests squirrels!

Great campsite in the middle of an urban area. Although you wouldn't know it once pitched.

Access to the site is good with a late night arrival area.

Staff are friendly and helpful with a good knowledge of the surrounding area and public transport.

Pitches are spacious and varied, probably about half under trees. Some were on sloping ground. The site was well occupied but quiet as most visitors were out through the day.

There is a tented area and a couple of glamping pods.

Access to London is very good with a variety of modes of transport including bus, train, river bus and underground.

The town itself is a little run down but is having quite a lot of money spent on it. Don't let this put you off though.

I never felt unsafe and was with my family (two girls 8 & 6)

A new train station is being built and there is a large Sainsburys 5 minutes drive from the site.

The site is well secured and has CCTV monitoring.

There are 3 toilet blocks which are well serviced with good water pressure. (Unusual for CC site)

Phone signals are good - 4G.

The sites other inhabitants - Parakeets made it really quirky as I have never seen them in England previously.

Great site, will definitely recommend it.

Nice quiet site with good facilities. Is what I expected for the money we paid. Good transport links to London and we had no complaints. Not our first visit and not our last. Not all bathroom complexes were open but not a problem. Recommend.

An excellent site, well laid out & surrounded by trees. Ideally situated for visiting central London. The staff were very helpful especially because there were engineering works at the Abbey Wood station & they gave us loads of information for alternative travel ie we took the bus to Greenwich & then the Thames Clipper. The toilets & showers were immaculate, spotlessly clean & plenty of hooks etc to keep your clothes dry & you don't have to press a button every few seconds to keep the shower going! There are a few shops/takeaways etc within a few mins walk of the camp. Can't wait to go back again.

The third visit to this site with the friendliest and most helpful site wardens at this laid back Caravan Club site set in the tranquil spacious oasis of Abbey Wood and only a ½ train ride into central London.

New Sainsburys store located ½ mile away from site near the train station.

Tip for Autumn campers – watch out for the sites near the mature trees. Acorns or conkers falling on the roof of your units all night long is no fun at all.

The facilities could do with a revamp/maintenance no doubt being battered with such heavy use on this site open to members and non-members 12 months of the year.

This was our second visit to this site, having stayed there a few years ago. The site is as fantastic as ever. Although set in a built up area, you wouldn't know it once on there as it is surrounded by large trees which effectively screen the site. Staff were friendly & very helpful and always willing to offer advice / directions etc.

This site has the best toilet / shower blocks of any site I've ever been on. There are 3 large blocks on site, with plenty of hot water & heated flooring. They are well maintained & clean - I never saw them dirty at any time during our stay.

There is a small playpark for the kids at one side of the tent field. Enough children congregated there to keep our 5 & 11 year olds amused - I'm sure they enjoyed playing out in the dark.

The tent field is in the middle of the site on 2 levels. It is a bit sloping in places, but it was easy to find a flat area to pitch up on, even for a big tent like ours. It wasn't particularly busy, so it might not be as easy to find the perfect spot - the warden did say that at times in July the tent field looked like a festival.

There is a decent Co-Op store within 5 minutes walk and some smaller shops & takeaways near the train station which is only a 10 minute walk away - from there it's a direct train ride to the centre of London, making this site an excellent base for sightseeing.

The Abbey Cafe near the station does a fantastic breakfast, with quick service from the friendly, welcoming staff - open from 6. 30 am weekdays, 7. 30 at weekends.

All in all a fantastic long weekend - will definitely be back.

Really pleased we chose this site, could not fault it from the helpful staff to the pleasant surroundings. You would not think you were so close to the city. We were impressed by the facilities offered, everything was spotless. Everything was thought of and it was nice to see staff busy around the site, everyone was very approachable. We would not have any hesitation in recommending Abbey Wood to others.

To Find Site:- From M25 leave at junction 1A and take A206 in the direction of Erith and Thamesmead. The road changes to the A 2016. (don’t take any other signed route to Abbey Wood as this could prove difficult) Exit A2016 onto A2041 signed for Abbey Wood/Thamesmead. Continue on the road which takes you over Abbey Wood Station to next roundabout and take first exit into Knee Hill. Within a couple of hundred metres turn right into Federation Road (site signed) and site is on left. (This is not the official CC route which takes you to Abbey Wood from the A2 and is signed throughout, however the route above is easier with better roads)

NB. This campsite is in the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) zone. To check the suitability of your vehicle to enter this zone use the Transport for London website

Abbey Wood is one of two Club sites actually in London. Although situated in a very urban environment once on site this is not noticeable, in fact the site is a green oasis with many mature trees and is fairly peaceful given that in the summer it is very busy. The site is open all year and accepts non-members and tent campers. During the summer months there are a surprising number of overseas visitors. There are 156 pitches in total including 73 hardstandings and 50 tent pitches. The site slopes from the top down towards reception and in part pitches are on terraces. Levelling may be required on some pitches. Towards the top of the site is a large tent field. This is one of the Club sites where Camping Pods have been introduced and currently there are four available. Electric points are convenient to pitches and are rated at 16amps and use CEE17 blue connectors. Electric bollards also have TV co-ax connectors which are free to use but you need to provide your own cable or purchase one from reception. This is a handy addition as satellite reception from some pitches is difficult because of tree cover. There are three toilet blocks around the site which are of a very good standard. Fresh water, waste water disposal and toilet emptying points are dotted around the site. There are two motorhome emptying points but both require drain covers to be removed prior to use. For children there is an adventure style playground. There is site wide Wi-Fi available and time can be purchased online. I found it fine most of the time but it did slow down at busy times. The site has a small storage compound. There is also a decent late arrivals area although perhaps best to check with the site about using this facility. Reception sells a few essentials.

The beauty of this site is that it has easy transport links to Central London from Abbey Wood station, which is about a ten minute walk away, and all points between. Abbey Wood is also part of the Cross Rail project which is due to open in 2018 and will provide fast links right across London. Greenwich is with easy reach either by train or by bus from a stop which is a bit nearer to the campsite than the station. Buses are free to use for National bus pass holders. There is a lot to do in Greenwich with the Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory and more. There is also access to the DLR if you want to visit Canary Wharf. From Greenwich Pier you can also take the Thames Clipper along the river into Central London with several interesting stopping places en route. There are discounts for Oyster Card and Travelcard holders on the boats. For food shopping the nearest is a Co-Operative store in McLeod Road ten minute walk away from the site. For more serious shopping there is a large Sainsbury’s being built just the other side of Abbey Wood Station.

Just got back from a week here which was our second visit. This site is a really good location for visiting central London. Train station is a 5 min walk and there's trains approx every 15 mins to either Charing Cross or Canon St. Over the bank holiday weekend the trains weren't running due to works on the new Crossrail link. We had to catch a bus. Best alternative route was a bus to Woolwich and then the DLR to Bank. Much quicker than the bus to Greenwich. It still took about 90 mins compared to the normal 25 min journey. Engineering works may continue at some weekends for the next few years so check if this may be a problem with South East trains.

The campsite itself is nice. I think they're all hard standing pitches. There's a little tent field in the middle. Site is very secure and feels safe. Toilets and showers are spotless. Wardens helpful. Look out for the parakeets in the trees!

There's a play area for kids which they seemed to be enjoying.

Stayed here for 5 nights excellent site easy to find but another world once inside so rural and peaceful you cannot believe you are in London, well laid out site good size pitches beautifully maintained clean well heated shower blocks with full facilities the staff are so helpful with directions to the train station etc 10 minute walk with regular service to wherever you want in London

Plenty of wild life in the woods it's lovely with squirrels birds and apparently foxes who like to steal your shoes if you leave them out - also it is a very secure site and you feel very safe

All in all could not fault anything and would recommend it to everyone visiting London in your caravan or motorhome or tent

We arrived back after midnight and felt safe walking back from the station and the site was securely locked with key coded access through a side gate

This is an excellent site well done
