Caravan storage site, where many owners like to spend some time. We used it as a base to visit York, because all the normal campsites were booked up.

The owner had no issue with us using the site, though we had to find the right pitch for our awning, seeing as most pitches were concrete and gravel, and there was very little grass. Security was scarily good - walls all around and James Bond style reinforced gates that slide back when you enter the right code.

We never met the owner, having made our booking over the phone, and been given the security code for the gates. We had to ask our neighbour in a caravan for the security code for the toilet/shower block - and he had to telephone his wife to get the code for the Ladies.

Within walking distance, the village of Strensall provides a small Tesco Extra, Boots' Chemist and a couple of pubs with beer gardens - one of which is obviously family friendly (as it had a bouncy castle and more for the kids) and serves food too.

My only criticism is regarding the shower. It required 50p for the meter, and yet gave about 4 minutes. I needed to wash my hair, and this was barely enough. I also struggled with the loose shower head, which actually fell off shortly after I started.

The site is mostly given over to seasonal pitches, thereforethere are only a few touring pitches. Do not let this put you off though. It is a very well laid out site with all pitches having hard standings, electric points and very quiet. It is ideal if you are a fisherman as adjacent are what looked like fine fishing ponds.

The toilet block was small but clean with showers, and filled the needs admirably.

The day we arrived it was raining very heavy but the owner a very pleasant person, came out to greet us and show us to our pitch.

Locally the main attraction is York with its museums, minster, shopping and river. The best way to visit is to take the park & ride service approx. 5 mile from the site. This takes you into the heart of the city with no hassle. Also approx. 9 mile north is Castle Howard one of England's finest county houses.

A small quiet site but one we shall visit again.

Booked this site for storage and decided to stay to check caravan over as it was our first time. Only booked the one night but this was not a problem. Site well laid out, not uniform like a lot of sites, no more that 4 or so in a line laid out in small groups making it very cosy. Well landscaped areas. And if you are a fisherman then this is the site for you. Has its own fishing grounds next to the site. Although mainly an adult site it is not advertised as such and children would be welcome but not a lot for them to do, could see them getting bored quite quickly. Toilet block although small they were well kept and very clean, most of the caravans were season pitches, I can see why, but were still made to feel very welcome. Friendly, cosy, great chill out site to stay at, will stay again without any doubt.
