We had a nice welcome on arrival.
Toilets and showers are mixed which isn't stated anywhere. they were fair but in desperate need of modernising and a good clean, unless you are a person who loves spiders and cob webs everywhere!
You also have to give a five pound deposit for a toilet key again this was not advertised.
You had to use the car to get to a shop or pub. This site is mainly static caravans.
There is a very small playground for children. This site is cheap but have paid less elsewhere and had much higher standards.
With work this has the potential to be a nice site.

We've been coming to this wooded valley for years and like the quiet seclusion this site offers. Unfortunately the tent area has been downgraded with statics now taking up the former tent field (which offered lovely views with hedging to separate pitches and act as windbreaks).
The new tent area is very small with 5 or 6 pitches and is in a very shaded area in he corner of the site. It's clear that tourers aren't the priority here. There is hard standing available for 5+ vans and regulars seem to come back year after year.
There are some lovely walks nearby- you only have to wander down the road to find an interesting little stream- and there's lots of wildlife around.
The toilet/shower block is fine, a little outdated but generally kept pretty clean.
The dishwashing facilities are decent and under cover and because the touring space is so small now you'll never have to queue. St Clears has a Spar and Co-op and provides most of things you might need, e. G banks, hardware store, deli, pubs, takeaways, and there are lots of fantastic places to visit within 30 minutes drive.
There's a small wooden kids playground for kids up to about 7 and an aviary. The site is near a road but pretty enclosed and safe.
Grumbles: don't use the hair dryer unless you want to pay 20p for the privilege of getting electrocuted. Also not recommended are the laundry facilities. We paid £5 to dry a load of clothes and the cycle lasts a lot less than claimed.
The reception area is neglected and you'll have to ring a bell and possibly face an inconvenienced owner's wife who clearly has better things to be doing.
They also no longer have any recycling facilities, despite holding a David Bellamy gold conservation award. This needs to be reviewed!
The owners dog is shut up in a kennel with a small run and barks continually. I've never seen it taken out and it's quite upsetting to listen to.

Having been let down by the site we had actually booked with, we stumbled across the Afon Lodge site by accident. Although the site is primarily designed for caravans and motor homes, there is a field with space for several tents.
When we arrived, the owner was very friendly and within minutes we were pitching the tent with a minimum of fuss. The site fees were reasonable too, at £12 per night for 2 adults and 2 children.
The site itself is very well laid out, with a small Children's play area and a building which can be used to keep the kids entertained curing wet weather - not to mention the rabbit hutch and aviary which had the children enthralled.
For the majority of the time we stayed, we were the only people onsite. Despite this, the toilets were cleaned daily. The toilet facilities themselves were perfectly adequate, with 2 shower cubicles provided in both the Mens and Ladies. There was also a separate area for washing up, with very hot water on tap.
We used the site as a base to visit Tenby and the Oakwood amusement park (about 45 minutes drive away) as well as visiting the beach and castle at Llansteffan (about 20 minutes drive. The village of St Clears is roughly 3 miles away, which has a supermarket, a couple of pubs and several fast food outlets for when you don't feel like cooking.
In fact, the only downside to this site was that they didn't allow campfires, although even then the owner was perfectly happy for us to cook on a small barbecue we had brought with us.
This is one site that I'd be more than happy to visit again in the future.

June 2005 The touring field is quite a nice field and the hook ups, which are included in the price, also include TV and you can borrow an aerial cable. The toilets were pretty good - the ladies had two shower rooms with toilet and washbasin, and two toilets with washbasin. The showers were powerful and hot. There is a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. The site is in the middle of nowhere and we found there was not much in the way of walks except on the lanes. There is a small shop for the essentials but nothing else. Nice little site if you want peace and quiet.
