We stayed at the 4 Winds Tipis in Low Wray at the end of May 2010 and had a great weekend. The weather was lovely and warm in the day but got very cold at night but thankfully you get a calor gas heater in your tipi, a godsend and definitely needed at that time of year. The tipi comes fully stocked with beds and kitchen equipment so you don't need to take anything with you.

The tipi field is away from the tent and caravan pitches but near a toilet block which is a basic breezeblock building, full of spiders and other creepy crawlies but clean and tidy. When we were there there were only 2 showers working so there was a queue in the mornings but there was plenty of hot water and also electric points for hairdrying and straightening!

Each tipi also had its own fire pit and picnic bench which was great and meant you could sit and BBQ or toast marshmallows!

The staff were very friendly and it was good value for money

We walked into Hawkshead which was a very scenic walk and took about 30 minutes. There is lots to do in Hawkshead so well worth a visit. There are also a couple of pubs about 2-3 miles away from the campsite.

We stayed with 4 Winds Tipis for a Monday to Friday break at their Low Wray site. The tipis are great they look really great and the kids just thought they were wonderful. The equipment they come with is all very useful but I needed a cheese grater!

The kids loved having the river so nearby and played in it everyday as well as going down to the lake with the dinghy. They liked the playground too.

The owner Lee is very friendly and helpful and the campsite staff are also very good.

The shop is handy to have but it would be nice if there was a bit more choice. The toilets were basic but clean and the showers were very good no waiting and plenty of hot water and room for me and two small children.

We went to the Drunken Duck to eat which is about 2 miles away it was pricey but delicious a good treat.

It was great to be able to have the outdoor fire and the table and bench set. Would definitely recommend.

4 Winds Lakeland Tipis are now operating at a new location, Fell Foot Wood, a small woodland site (22 acres) near Newby Bridge, Cumbria. The site has a natural amphitheatre, views over the lake and is a haven for flora and fauna.
