I simply cannot fault this tent. As a single parent I have camped with my son for the last 8 years. We used to have a good old sunncamp canvas tent and when that was on its last legs have had a number of mediocre tents.

I bought this as the tent is in one so pitching took myself and my 12 year old son 15 minutes first time (on a windy hill in Robin Hoods Bay)

The bedrooms take 2 double airbeds, just. The living area is big enough for 2 chairs and a table. You could possible fit 4 people at a squeeze but for the 2 of us it was perfect.

The groundsheet is sewn in and kept all the rain out. We had heavy rain and very strong winds and not one leak. The outer is very noisy in the wind but I can live with that.

Packing away was as simple as putting it up.

Used this tent for the first time in may 2012. Very easy and quick to put up.Built in grown sheet was a great bonus. Bedrooms can take 2 pop up camp beds with good space between. 4 blow up beds would be a squeeze. Bought a awning at same time which took all cooking gear out of the tent which gave more living space. This is a great tent for anyone how wants to dip there toes into camping. Go ahead you will have fun.

After years of insisting my fear of 'creepy crawlies' would stop me enjoying a holiday in a tent, my partner and I decided to give camping a try as a way of exploring Britain without the expensive hotels. I went for the Rock 4 as it has a completely sewn in ground sheet, as opposed to to a lot of tents where only the bedroom compartment is sewn in. Also I wanted a tent with space, where I could move around and sit/stand in the living area rather than just being able to crawl in and crawl out of a small space. Indeed on purchase the rock 4 seemed to tick all the boxes. We took it out for its first run on the bank holiday weekend and we weren't disappointed.

We managed to get it up and pegged down in about 30 minutes and I'm confident we'll be quicker next time. Both the bedroom compartments and the living area are very roomy. Plenty of space for two or three but I think four adults would be pushing it for comfort.

It rained constantly on the second day and night, but the tent held up very well and there were no leaks

Would recommend this tent to any starter. Fingers crossed it will last many camping trips to come.

Excellent tent. I wanted to down size so bought the rock 4 and a porch to go with it. Being a lady of a certain age I was informed that I would be able to erect this ten my self. I've just spent a wet weekend in this tent and couldn't be more happy with it. It went up like a dream and even the porch was hassle free to attach, and I really like the sew in bed room inner tent. It was even a bit windy but I still managed without any help. I'm pleased I bought the porch as it allowed me to keep the front door open when it was raining, I think if I hadn't got it I'd have spent most of the evenings looking out at blue canvas as the door slopes, so if it's raining the wet would be able to get in if the door was rolled open. With the porch you also gain space to put all the wet stuff you accumulate. It was very windy when I came to put it down and I did have to borrow a 12 yr old child to sit on the canvas once I'd removed the poles to stop it taking off over the moors. I'd really recommend this tent I'm more than happy with it and don't be afraid if you are lone camping it really is simple to put up only took me 30 mins with the porch as well.

This is our first time camping so we bought a tent we could afford and the hi gear rock 4 was the one we chose.Well pleased it said 15 minutes to erect and we done it in 18 minutes .Looks an expensive tent and done the job when we had a nights rain, can't wait for our next adventure ,so if you want a tent that does the job in the wet and spacious and you have little money this is the tent for you

Used this tent for the first time in August 2013 and as first time campers it took my husband and me a bit longer than the 15 minutes the manufacturers state to erect, even after having had a trial run of putting it up in the garden a few weeks beforehand. However I am sure with more practice we will get quicker. Am so pleased that we decided to go all out and invest in the matching canopy as it does give you that bit of extra space. As the weather was so nice all weekend we were able to leave our chairs and table in the canopy all the time. We also bought the carpet for the living area which does add a bit of luxury and makes it warm underfoot it the morning. All in all a great tent and accessories for the price and we are very much looking forward to our next camping adventure. My only comment for any future purchasers of the Rock 4 would be to invest in some good quality tent pegs. The ones that come with the tent are good but cannot cope with heavily stoned ground, like it was in Norfolk, and we had to throw away about 8 pegs as they bent whilst we were trying to secure them in the ground.

We bought the rock 4 at a bargain price of 100 from go outdoors and I must say its the best tent we ever bought, big enough for me,my partner and 7 yr old, although we only go for weekends with mates so we don't take a lot, nice spacious tent keeps you warm and dry and very strong as well, have no problems with this tent at all, it goes up as easy as putting it down, we also use the delta pegs as we camp near the beach so it can sometimes get a bit breezy, id recommend this tent to anyone

I bought my tent in 2013 but have only just managed to get away in it. We went up to Scotland this August and was not disappointed with it. Just me (mum) and my 18 and 8 year old girls. Easy to put up (mainly solo) no working out which pole goes where as they are all the same size. Good feature is the inner tent is built in so no messing about fitting that, removable room divider. Built in ground sheet cutting out drafts and fitted skirt for water runoff. Good head height along length for size of tent. Had torrential rain twice and tent didn't even notice, stood up to a few strong gusts of wind we had. Choice of large front door with toggles to hold bottom down in wind, or side door also with toggle to hold down. Good ventilation at rear also.

We were comfortable staying for a week in this size as room to pack a tent in the car was limited.

My oh has been trying to talk me into buying a tent for some time now, we normally camp in a folding camper but fancied a tent so we can camp in weather we wouldn`t take the camper out in or on sites that are only suitable for tents. The Rock 4 and canopy seemed like the perfect tent for us a family of 3 and a dog. We like it because we can stand up in it, we are all tall and we still have plenty of room head wise. The area to sleep in is ok, I wouldn`t want to fit in 4 but perhaphs smaller people will fit or 2 adults and 2 kids. We do like it because it warms up quickly with our fan heater. Our first camp was 25 October and we were warm and cosy all night long.

A great tent for short stays on its own or if you add the canopy longer stays.

Easy to erect and very affordable.

We can`t wait to go away again in our cosy Rock 4

I do have a bigger Royal Atlanta 8 tent but thought this would be great for the wife and I to go away for weekends. I saw it in Go Outdoors when they had it on a special deal for only 79! At that price I thought why not, although I did have reservations and thought it might be a little too cheap and very nasty. Not nasty at all as it turns out with some nice touches as well!

The instructions are sewn into the bag and are not great but it went up easy enough. The doors don't zip across the bottom but there are toggles on the drop down front sewn in ground sheet which hold the bottom of the door down and also the elasticated loops on each corner for pegging down as well.

There is plenty of room for a couple of chairs and small table in the living area, but you can't really cook in here, but the front sun canopy can be used easily to cook under. The bedroom also has a PROPER partition which is zipped into place all the way round not those pointless thin bits of material that just toggle into position. Another nice feature on the bedroom doors is the mesh panel in the top which is covered by a panel on the inside of the bedroom which just unzips. A nice feature to have so that the doors can remain closed but air can circulate with the panel open but the mesh preventing the insects from coming in.

It's a shame that it doesn't come with the front door canopy poles or guy lines, but I just bought the Vango 180cm king pole set for I think it was about 8 and as can be seen in my photos it all works really well, the poles also fit in the tent bag! The front vents above the small triangle windows don't have the foam arm that comes down to hold them open but there is foam in the vent cover which does seem to hold it open quite well.

It has now been weathered in and there have been no leaks, but the inside roof was quite wet with condensation so trying to leave the vents open would be a good idea to try and get some more air flow. All in all very impressed with this tent for the price, it really is very good.

I also bought the matching footprint and carpet which all come in nice carry bags. The carpet even comes with a small matching door mat! The footprint also comes with pegs with tops that lay flat so the tent can be pitched over the top with no problems, a really nice idea for which I was very surprised at for this price range.

The only issue I've found is that on the bag for the footprint it gives the size of 400cm x 240cm which it actually is as I double checked the measurement. The layout plan of the tent gives the tent dimensions as 460cm x 260cm. When I put the tent up it did seem that the footprint was too small, but not by as much as the measurements suggest. The only way to check this is by going back to Go Outdoors and taking a footprint out of the bag and actually measuring it to see if they do actually have one that matches the size of the tent. To be fair there really isn't too much in it and I'm quite happy with everything as it is.

For a decent sized tent that you can stand up in get a footprint and carpet for less than 150 it was a cracking deal. A bit more expensive now but still great value in my opinion.

Manufacturer's Description

A spacious family 4 person tent with a large bedroom and porch, ideal for small families and getaways.

4 Berth Family Tent
All in one pitching style
Taped seams - no leaks

The Hi Gear Rock 4 is a flexible family tent for smaller families or couples looking for extra room. The tent and bedroom are separate parts that are permanently attached by a mesh panel, so you get the reduced condensation of a double-skin design without the hassle of fitting the inners every time you pitch. The sewn in groundsheet keeps drafts and insects out as well as protecting from wet ground.

The bedroom can be divided in 2 with a central curtain, and the tall windows in the front allow lots of light into the living area. The doors to the front and side can be converted to awnings with awning poles (sold separately).

A great tent for first time campers or those who want a simple and roomy tent for weekends away.
