4 Reviews of the Air Seconds Family 4

This a great tent for a single camper, very easy to erect and super roomy for one. However taking it down and packing it away is another story. I just can't work out how to do it and end up with a massive amount of tent which does not go back into its smart bag. Does any body have a video that shows how to do it?

I have used this tent a couple of times now.

It is super fast to pitch and very easy. Takes about 40 min for me to put together a full set up and the tent is probably 10min of this. Packing away is easy, watch the video on the decathlon site a few times and it's goes away no problem straight into the bag. Again about 10min in all including tying up the guy lines and folding.

I was given a go in shop by helpful staff before purchase and it is just as easy on my own. The tent was bought for me to go solo with my dogs for short trips. It's perfect for that. The porch fits my recliner chair and little stove, plus boxes. The bedroom is huge and fits the dog crates and my bed, plus room for storage of clothes and food.

I can lay out the internal door so if it's wet out the dogs walk in and into their crates, and the bedroom stays clean.

Stands up fine in wind, the air beams are very sturdy. Make sure you pump until you can't pump.

I use two picnic mats for a carpet that cost me 8 for the two from BNM. One in the porch and one in the bedroom.

The negatives - the ground sheet is not sewn in in the Porch area. There is no curtain on the window and it is possible from certain angle to see into the bedroom, even with the doors closed. Windbreaks help with privacy but bear this in mind which way you face the tent at the site. The door is angled sharply and it's a bit inconvenient at times to get shut or open all the way down. A window in the door would be nice. Finally the door could do with a shelter, as there is no way of opening it and rain not getting is as it open to the side. A small awning would help here or a door opening from the bottom

These are all small things and bearing in mind the price of this tent they are easy to over look. On the whole very pleased.

Having owned a number of Quechua tents in the past, I noticed this one whilst wandering around Decathlon the other day, and after weighing up the pro's and con's have bought it for an up and coming tour of Scotland.

The plan was to take the Quechua Base Seconds 2 with us, due to speed of pitching (we are moving campsites each night), but whilst the BS2 is a great tent, it suffers from a lack of porch area, a big factor in poor weather.

The Air Seconds Family 4 has the advantage of a porch area, and having done a test pitch in the garden, I had it up in under 10 minutes, a major plus when camping with a 9yo son. It's plenty roomy enough, and seems pretty sturdy. Decamping was equally quick.

My only wish would be that the door would unzip down the sides, and enable the front flap to be used as a porch cover.

I'm not sure that I would want to spend a week in a tent of this size with multiple people (unless you were all intimate with each other), but for an easy to pitch short stay tent, it's a definite winner.

Not camped it in it yet. But from a test pitch I am really happy.

It doesn't take much effort to inflate the tent. It was upright within a couple of minutes. (The tent doesn't come with a pump, so I purchased the 11.99 pump from Decathlon.)

I had it inflated within 2-3 minutes on my own.

Good size bedroom, and living area with hooks and pockets dotted throughout.

Also get quite a few spare parts, from elastic to pole parts. (There is one pole needed above the door.)

Only downside is the doors do not include a mesh door. However the tent does have plenty of ventilation.

Will also mention the two windows on the front do not have curtains.

Looking forward to using it for its first trip.

Manufacturer's Description

DIMENSIONS WEIGHT
Small living area measuring 240cm by 180 cm and 145 cm high allowing 4 people to sit around a table. 1 large bedroom measuring 240cm x 205cm with max headroom of 125cm. Weight 8.8 kg.

COVER
Cover with compression strap 58 cm long, 38cm high and 18 cm wide

SHORT TRIPS
Basin groundsheet that can be flattened around the doorway. 2 plastic windows. Pockets on the outside of the bedroom.

PITCHING/FOLDING
Very quick and easy to pitch and fold down. The "all-in-one" structure uses inflatable arches. Once the 4 corners of the tent have been laid out and fixed to the ground, simply inflate the 3 arches using a hand pump (not included). The overhang above the doorway is fitted by running a fibreglass pole under the lining of the fly sheet.

VENTILATION AND CONDENSATION PREVENTION
Lined flysheet around the living area to allow ventilation and reduce condensation. A vent behind the room.

WATERPROOFING
All Quechua tents are laboratory tested (the ENTIRE TENT under 200 litres/hour/sqm, that''s 200mm per hour for 4 hours!) and field tested before approval. (PU-coated polyester flysheet, 140 g/sqm polyethylene groundsheet, all seams sealed using thermobonded tape). A breathable polyester inner tent under the fly sheet means you aren''t in contact with the condensation that forms naturally on the inside of the fly sheet.

WIND RESISTANCE
We test all of our tents in a wind tunnel and on a rotating plate to expose each side of the tent to the wind. A properly assembled tent with all the stays in position around the tent should remain habitable;e under wind speeds measuring 50 km/h at ground level.

STRUCTURE
3 layer inflatable arch structure: 1 TPU "air chamber", 1 polyethylene cover with a zip and 1 sheath to keep the arch in the fly sheet. The door canopy uses one fibreglass pole.

TENT PEGS
Excellent twisting resistance (5 mm steel).
