9 Reviews of the Hayling 6 Air

By: Kando  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:   Date: 29/06/2018

Bought this tent last September as, following retirement, we wanted more space than our Coleman Coastline deluxe offered. We had completed a lot of research & felt that an airbeam would be helpful & that the Kampa Hayling 6 offered the layout & space we wanted for those more changeable weather conditions. We have not been disappointed!

Took the tent away for 7 days for its first outing. We have a footprint which we know many advise & following laying this out we were able to peg the tent's 4 corners & inflate it within 20 minutes using the pump supplied with the tent.

It's great having a bedroom area that goes up with the tent. We took a little longer with the guy ropes as they were still on factory setting. We have our own pegs so didn't use those supplied.

There is plenty of space inside the tent. The porch housed our preparation table & concertina kitchen with gas cooker placed on either side. We didn't have to use the vestibule we had bought as the weather was so good. We were able to sit in the porch & enjoy all around us.

It was windy on our last day, but this was not noticeable inside the tent, which remained really stable. When it came to deflating the tent the front was into the breeze, but we were still able to deflate the tent & once the fabric was on the ground it wasn't hard to start packing it up. Well done Kampa for the oversized tent bag.

We're aware that there are some updates on the 2018 model, but this tent had everything we wanted as it was.

We have used our tent in the UK for camping in the Lake District and its brilliant for the UK!

We are currently using the tent on a 3 week road trip in Europe where temperatures are 30 degrees in the day and 20 degrees in the evenings.

I have stated our 2 uses as they are significant.

+ it is very easy to erect

+ it is very easy to pack up

+ the bedroom and living compartment are already connected so no messing around with additional layers

+ very weather proof in wind and storms (it was brilliant in the worse storm they'd seen in Croatia in the past 20 years) providing all the guide ropes are fixed

+ the living space inside the tent is very good and the porch keeps you dry in the rain (we haven't bought the add-on and is as standard)

+ the bedroom retains good heat (UK camping)

- the tent packed away is quite heavy and a fragile male/female may require some assistance carrying it

- it's much bulkier than a poled tent but worth it due to the bone hassle of piles etc

- there is not enough ventilation for 20 degrees in the night (abroad camping), we have rigged up a fan to assist but even with the shell open and fly mesh exposed where possible, it's still too hot.

- there could do with been cable entry points near the bedrooms as opposed to just ones toward the front.

- the bottom of the bedroom compartment inside does not stretch out with the outer layer, if it did, there would be slightly more ventilation which is not a problem in the UK but in warmer countries, it's noticeable

NEUTRAL - it's possible to over inflate the poles but there is a pressure guage on the hand pump to stay in the green

Make no mistake, this is a really good tent but there a couple of small changes that could be made to make it perfect

We are really impressed with this purchase. We searched for almost two years to find the best tent for us (2 humans, 2 border collies). And the 2018 Kampa Hayling 6 Classic Air Pro (polycotton) fits the bill perfectly. We purchased the separate vestibule door to enable us to cook on rainy days and dry the dogs off before re-entering the main living area of the tent. The vestibule door attaches to the tent with a large zip to keep it secure with 'wings' which peg onto the outside of the canopy. Both the main and side doors of the tent have mesh to keep out bugs, and the side door has the option of a privacy curtain which is a nice touch. All the privacy curtains are zipped, with little pockets at the bottom to store the curtain whilst not in use.

We have had no issues at all with air leaks, water leaks or structural problems, despite being subjected to 75kph storm winds and heavy rain battering down on us. I think the heavy duty guy-lines and built-in storm straps help to keep everything in place, along with multiple pegging points. Another plus point is the lack of internal condensation in the mornings.Even though most evenings we had the heater on for a while. We also loved the Sabre link flex LED lighting system that this tent supports. No more banging heads on hanging lanterns! There are plenty of storage pockets, 2 cable entry points and the option to have a wardrobe hanging pole in each bedroom.

The only SLIGHT negative is the tent comes supplied with nasty plastic pegs which snap quite easily, even in quite soft ground. All in all, an excellent tent worth paying that bit extra for :)

This is the best camping purchase we've every bought. It goes up so easy, it's a dream to pitch, the new pitch straps / storm straps are brilliant - very sturdy. Packing away is also easy with the larger sized bag - plenty of room to 'pack it your way'.

My partner and I love our trips away in it, rain or shine, hot or cold. We've never had any issues with condensation or leaking.

We bought the additional vestibule and whilst it was difficult to add on initially (well, trying to get it straight), it does offer the best addition to the front space.

The tent was bought for comfort, it's just the two of us and we wanted plenty of room for when we are rained in.

I guess if we had to be critical about then the list is pretty short.

1) Additional pockets in the middle of the internal part of the bedroom would be great - as neither of our arms are that long to reach the sides. (Similar to the ones hanging on the outside of the bedroom would be really helpful.)

2) A mesh door/ hatch incorporated into the front door (not the vestibule door), just like the side door, would be amazing - great to keep the air moving without the flies coming in.

3) LIKE ALL TENTS IN SUMMER - it gets hot. (We got around this by using command strips and putting up curtains of weed suppressant at the windows - it doesn't damage the canvas as we attached to the window, and it kept the tent A LOT cooler.

4) We did have a beam leak - but the retailer that sold us it, resolved this with a new beam without any questions.

In summary - when this one goes to the great campsite in the sky, it will be the next generations of this one that we'll be purchasing - 100% for sure.

Highly recommended.

We purchased this tent 3 days before a camping holiday to Jersey so had no time to put it up beforehand. However I had watched a video from the manufacturer and found everything reasonably easy and obviously it will be even better next time. I used a Kampa electric pump which was purchased at the same time as the tent, purely for speed and ease of inflation and I would recommend this to anyone considering buying an inflateable tent.

I had seen reviews of this tent complaining of leaks but even though the latest 2016 model has been improved I was still worried when we had torrential rain on our second night. There was no need to worry though as the tent stayed completely dry.We also had some fairly high winds and again the tent was fine.

It is best to ignore the RRP of£1200 as this tent can be bought for much less at many outlets and we got the tent, footprint, carpet, pump and vestibule extension for around £870 although the dealer did give us the vestibule free.I would recommend adding the vestibule extension as it seems to make the tent space much greater and offers extra shelter from bad weather.

As with all inflateable tents re-packing can be difficult because it is hard to get all the air out of the inflation tubes but Kampa have acknowledged this and supplied an oversize bag which helps a lot.

My only complaint is that the tent is supplied with plastic pegs which are often unsuitable for very hard dry sites.

We bought the Kampa Hayling 6 as it seemed to tick all the boxes for us. We did wonder why it was cheaper than an equivalent tent but the shop convinced us that it was a good tent and we would have no problems with it.

How wrong could the shop be, when we pitched it one of the air tubes were twisted and even after we untwisted it, it still did not inflate properly, we also got the vestibule but if you use it you can't put the front guy lines out so as soon as their is a small breez the front of the tent collapses in. We also had to fix it every time we came back to the tent after any length of time the vestibule had to be re attached as it just fell off. But the worst thing was the amount of water that leaked into the tent it came in through the seams on the air beams and pooled at the bottom. Also the window pockets for the curtains also had half an inch of water in them to so not very water proof. All in all the design is very good but in realisation is very poor I would not give this tent away let alone sell it.

We took it back to the shop and exchanged it and now have what we should of bought to start with a Vango taiga 600xl airbeam.

Just returned from our first trip in the Hayling 6 air. I have to say both myself and my wife love this tent. This tent is so easy to pitch we practice twice at home in the garden and on site it took approx 10 mins to get it up. The windows are excellent and having the curtains which can be used in various positions is an excellent feature. The living space is huge. On rainy days (which is unusual for the UK) you can sit in and watch the world go by in some comfort.

The air poles at the front did not sit right but this was due to needing to adjust the sleeves at the base on the Velcro connection. The only down side to this tent is the pack size it is big especially coming from the Ottawa 4. It has taken several attempts to get this packed back into its bag but I'm sure with more use we will get a method and use to it. Condensation was no issue although we had a little water around the base of 1 pole after rain but I think this was due to not having time to weather tent before going.

My only gripe and this is a small one is that we bought the optional footprint but when used no pegs are supplied. I think when you pay £30 for what is really a ground sheet it wouldn't break the bank to include pegs as Gelert does.

Overall this is a fantastic tent which is easy to pitch but a bit of pain to pack but we'll worth the effort. We strongly recommend it.

I have a hayling 6air and I love it. I purchased the vestibule and at first I was given the wrong version ,the company couriered the correct one to Devon . So easy to put up and so big this tent is amazing. Excellent value retailing way below the RRP. Only problem is that some sites do not take this size tent . Quality of material is strong and extremely we'll proofed large windows make it light and airy. Highly recommended.

Excellent tent. So quick to erect. Bought brand new for £730.00 After 17 minutes of pumping and putting out the guy lines, we were done. So simple. There were a few things wrong though. 2 rings missing off pegging down straps. 1 of the bedroom supports was already missing and the tape behind the velcro on the front door was peeling away. Liked it a lot but with a new tent you expect everything to be right. Took it back and upgraded to the Croyde 6 Air.
