2 Reviews of the Pulsar 300

By: Bramston  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:   Date: 18/07/2017

Have just spent 2 weeks in this tent in France, have gone through heatwave, storm and tempest. This is the best small tent I've used. Too large for one person as a hike tent but would work for 2, The extended fly would make this tent practical to sleep 3, with space for kit in the porch.

Used a matching Vango Adventure Tarp to give sun/rain shelter at the side of the tent as the tent did get hot during the heat of the day.

The gothic arch aluminium poles make the tent higher in the centre and reduces waste space at the sides. Although it was very windy the poles have not been damaged or split as glass fibre poles tend to. The tent fabric was waterproof through thunderstorms and not damaged by heavy winds, although the pegs started to pull out of the ground.

I got lazy and left the inner tent clipped in place when I took down the tent and moved campsite several times, making it even easier to erect.

They make a 2 man version of this tent without the extended fly, I want one for solo hiking/cycling.

We have recently bought this tent for backpacking. Yep, it is on the heavy side for a solo backpacking tent, but it will be divided between two people in our case.

We have only put it up in the garden at the moment, but we are very impressed. The 300 technically sleeps 3, but as with most of these small tents I think three slinky teenagers would be ok, but three big burly fishermen would struggle. I would say a comfortable and spacious 2 berth, with a really good size porch for kit storage, boots etc.

It has a door on either side, and all the usual Vango bits like the tension band system, Line-lok system, and various handy pockets. I believe the older version of this was called the Spirit.

It has a 5000 hydrostatic head rating and cathedral arch shape colour coded alloy poles.

It is very fast to pitch and we hope to give it a proper wild camping trial soon.
