8 Reviews of the Drummond 7

Used mine for the first time in August for 2 weeks for our annual camping holiday in the Channel Islands.

This is our first Outwell tent having owned various Vangos / Hi-Gears etc over the years. Always been told Outwell are better quality and on my first impressions I’d agree.

Everything seems to work so smoothly - it was really simple to erect (needed 2 people though as it’s huge), zips, toggles are all easy and nothing seems stretched, luminous guy ropes with ties, good solid pegs etc.

The tent itself is huge and the best feature is both front doors (inner and outer) completely open out making one massive room you can use in the evening if it gets a bit chilly/windy - we had 14 people eating in the tent one night. Mesh on all doors means you get plenty of airflow without letting bugs in too.

The front section has a removable groundsheet - we didn’t bother using it as it makes a great cooking/wet room without it and it has mud valences round the front section that can be pegged down so when it rains it still stays dry anyway.

What dosen’t come out on official pictures is the width of the tent - it’s 4.5m wide and the bedrooms are extra long (2.5M) so the living space is a big square (4.4 x 4.5) if you open out the inner doors - a bit different than all the other tunnel tents we’ve had which are always long rather than wide.

Plenty of room for 5 I would say - there was only 3 of us and we kept one of the 3 bedrooms as a storage room. The extra long bedrooms are great - loads of room for SIM’s and loads of headroom.

For us a perfect family tent for a longer trip - we store it at the campsite so don’t need to transport it - it ‘s 2 big heavy bags when down but easy to pack away.

Only thing that stops me giving this a perfect score is no rainsafe side door - if it had a small covered entrance like a Montana then it would be perfect.

Simply the best tent we have had! We have been camping for 26 years and we knew exactly what we were looking for to replace our beloved Vango Maritsa, this was my trip to the 'Dark Side' being my first Outwell Tent.

Its extremely sturdy, has a fabulous front area enclosed porch where we house our fridge and kitchen - leaving the middle of the tent free for a large table and chairs etc, bags of room , and for such a big tent -I can get this tent upright on my own in 25 minutes.

You need an enclosed porch if you are camping in UK, due to the rainy weather, somewhere to leave your boots wet gear etc, but the front door opens as much or as little as you want- from a fully open door the width of the tent to just the top open about 12 inches when cooking in wet weather or to allow more cooling air through.

Bedrooms are huge two good sized ones.

Mesh panels on all the doors so you can leave the tent open without inviting the bugs in, also great for keeping the grand kids in safe with the zippers set up high out of reach of little people who might want to escape !

The maritsa from Vango was a classic - this is going to be following in its footsteps, a little bit more money buys you a very high spec tent with the 5000 hydrostatic head, to keep you dry.

Get yourself a dual roof protector and make the tent much darker inside for a lie in on those sunny mornings - plus its about 5c cooler in the midday heat.

The only wish I have to improve it would have been two side doors to allow maximum airflow in the hot weather,

This is a beast of a tent, quite simply the absolute BEST! We have owned quite a few tents over the last 9 years, even an 8 berth Vango air tent (which by the way was more trouble than it was worth). The Drummond definitely takes some beating. Just the two of us when we camp so we live like royalty :) If you're considering a new tent this is the one you need to buy!

Upgraded to Drummond 7 from Montana 6 and front awning. I bought this (Tent only £599 from Charlies Direct) August 2017.

After much research, firstly on air tents then when found that Drummond 7 is pole tent and very similar to Corvette air, decided to stay with poles.

Although the initial weight of the Drummond is much heavier pitching than Monty and separate awning, pitching the Drummond was so much quicker than tent and awning.

Curtains on all windows and doors, with mesh doors across front, you are able to have the front opened fully without insects going in the tent. There is also mesh and a window on side door. The waterproof on this tent is 5000 HH. The material is much improved from our 2009, 5000 HH Montana.

As there are only 2 of us camping, made one big bedroom out of middle and left bedroom, and used 3rd. Bedroom as storage room for tent bags, furniture bags and many boxes. The end wall in the living area can be rolled open either halfway or fully open. It also has curtains over mesh windows,if wall kept zipped. Curtains have toggles, so can have windows opened at half or full size, makes the tent lighter and bigger.

Plenty of vents across the back and sides. The front section of the tent can also be opened fully and mesh doors kept in place. Now that had short break to check tent over can't wait to camp in 2018.

After spending a week in Cornwall in our other tent and suffering broken poles while pitching, we decided to go for something a bit sturdier for our 4 week holiday in France and Switzerland. Decided on the Drummond after receiving an email saying it was on special offer. Best decision we made. This tent was easy to put up and down, bedrooms perfect for the 5 of us. Lots of space in the living area when we needed to sit in and the front porch area was perfect for the kitchen, shoes and wet things. Mesh on the side door and on the windows to the living area door was perfect for keeping the tent cool and keeping bugs out, and also the vents on the sides above windows. Now looking forward to planning where to use it next year now!

I was a little nervous about buying this tent as I could find no reviews. However, I'm really glad we did. Just got back from a five day trip with it, really spacious and venting system works really well. We had a thunder storm right over us one night and it coped with the massive downfall no problem at all. Love the porch area which is massive.

We brought the Outwell Drummond 7 after out growing our Outwell Nevada M.

We had spent the past year researching and listing “our wants and needs” and the Drummond 7 ticked all the boxes, and within our price range.

We took the tent to a local campsite 40 miles away for an extended weekend break, despite the preceding week’s temperature of 30C, we arrived and pitched in the rain!

The remaining 3 days were a typical english summer, a bit of sun and rain, followed by a weather warning of wind! The Drummond behaved in an outstanding way, sadly the same could not be said of our tarp, after snapping two poles, one steel and the other a Tatonka it had to come down!

The other tents in our party did not fare as well either, however, the Drummond, despite only having half the guy ropes out, took the wind like a true Outwell tent should!

4.5 meter width, no more tripping over chairs in the morning,

Wet and dry areas - great for taking off and leaving muddy boots outside the main area of the tent

3 bedrooms, the large 3 man bedroom, is located with the middle of the tent, which from our perspective was fantastic as there was no more waking up wrapped in a tent!

Great head height, Easy to walk into, no ducking!

Wet area- the door at the front zips off either 50%, from either side or all the way, we relocated the kitchen to this area, once the tarp came down,

Easy to pitch - our first time took us about an hour in the rain! I would recommend that you watch the youtube video though

Weight - now this is where my partner and I disagree, I found the tent to heavy, however, he has reminded me that our old Nevada weighed just under half yet the Drummond is twice the size, with steel poles! His argument is that this is a positive for the size and sturdiness of the tent.

Price - this is a large tent for the money, very VFM

Quality - what can you say, another Outwell perfection, trusted and reliable

None really - I can’t wait to go on a longer trip

Overall I am really pleased with the tent, and I am glad we took the time to research and wait for the right tent, although this is our third tent in 3 years, I do feel (and hope) that we won’t be buying another tent for a while yet.

Just bought this after much research and deliberation and tried it out for one night in the garden. It was fantastic! Lots of space for a family of 4, the flexibility of bedrooms is good, it's light and airy, and we like the porch without the groundsheet for using as a kitchen. It pitched easily (poles were tight to get in, but it was the first pitch), and packed away in record time. All in all we are very happy with out purchase and would recommend.
