4 Reviews of the Ark 300+

Agree with Jeggerleg that the Ark isnít that easy to pitch: the colour coding for the poles is confusing, (I use masking tape to make my own system). I could imagine you could manage the 7 minutes Vango claims, provided the bedroom pod is already attached and there are more than one of you to help; on your own , 30 minutes is a more realistic estimate. I find the poles difficult to thread through and the ring and pin fixings almost impossible to put in single-handed.

That said, itís a good quality tent, plenty headroom inside, huge living space/ porch and you can open out the front to make a canopy, or attach an adventure tarp to front or side for extra room and to stop rain getting in when the doors are opened.

Palatial for one person, roomy enough for two (tidy) campers. Bedroom is long enough - just - for a folding camp bed or a single air bed. Two might be quite cosy, especially as the back wall tends to sag. Itís worth taking the time to tension it properly.

Overall a good little tent- a step up from a pop up. The next size , the 400 , would probably suit a family even better.

I haven't yet managed to pitch this tent. Never having used a tent of this type I was taken in by Vango's claim it's easy to pitch. My advice is to try it out before even dreaming of taking it on a trip. The colour coding is very confusing, I imagined when told the poles were colour coded there might be red, blue and green markers or some such. No, just a barely visible tab which is black or grey. I hadn't a clue the first time I tried pitching it which pole went where. A sales person at a shop stocking the tent was similarly confused. Another problem is a tendency the poles have of coming apart when threading them in or removing them. I definitely regret buying this tent.

Can't add much more than Moneypeni said, they're review is spot on. I have a small car (mini) and use this tent when away on the motorbike as well and its really a very good tent. Pitch time once you've linked-in the bedroom pod and ground sheet the first time you put it up will take less than 10 minutes. Packing up I find takes about 15 minutes but it always goes back in a bag. I bought a ground sheet to keep it clean and that will also fit in the bag (Once its been cleaned and dried obviously).

I also bought the adventure tarp and found I can put that up either on the side door or the front door which is a bonus as it caters well for whichever direction the wind is coming from.

I've pitched this on one occasion with the living area in a slight dip and after heavy rain it flood as clipping in the ground sheet still leaves space for water to flow. Lesson learnt! It does keep bugs out though and it keeps the draft out on windy nights when your sat in the living area.

The material on the bedroom pod I also found offers up a little resistance against the wind on stormy nights as its a slightly thicker material than I have seen on fully sewn in tents. This is usefull as the linked in feature is only in the living area. This tent also has the Vango tensioning system which pulls the side of the tent down towards the ground where the poles attach which minimises drafts.

I would have likes a proper lantern hanging point in the living area as well as the bedroom but you can use the door clips for this.

I won this tent in a UKCampsite / Outdoor Megastore competition and selected it specifically for camping with my motorcycle, where pack size and weight were important, along with the need for a porch to keep my biking equipment in.

This tent proved ideal for that, weighing less than 6Kg and yet roomy enough for a double SIM and space for bags etc. Within the sleeping pod. The porch area has a 'linked in' ground sheet which means the mud flaps on the fly sheet tuck underneath meaning an end to draughts and bugs. The porch area is large enough to cook and sit in on rainy/windy days.

Having used it in hot sunshine, pouring rain and freezing temperature I can say it holds up well in all of these. The Protex 3000mm flysheet holds up to the most serious of storms and having a door at the front and the side means you can get a good breeze blowing through the tent in hot weather. The built in mesh door allows a breeze through but keeps the bugs out. I thought the black and green colourway would be a bit dark, but the two PVC windows let in quite a lot of light to the porch area, and the darkness in the sleeping pod is quite welcome on sunny mornings.

Pitching is quick and easy with the colour coordinated poles and the 'all in one' pitching option. It's easy enough for one person to do pitch although two does speed things up. Packing away is easy and it's the first tent I've owned that easily fits back in to it's bag every time.

Small additional touches like storage pockets and a lantern hanging point in the sleeping area really make a difference. The one negative point is that due to the sloping side and front door, if it is raining, the inside of the tent gets a bit wet. We overcame this by purchasing a matching Adventure Tarp and now have no problems.

Overall, a great roomy tent that stands up to all weathers. Roomy enough for two if it's bad weather but small enough to pack up on the motorbike.
