5 Reviews of the Falcon 8

By: Abercrombie  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:

Good tent, very spacious and very sturdy. Have just returned from a trip to Devon where gale force winds ripped our Coleman shelter out of the ground and bent a steel pole. The Falcon 8 was totally unaffected. Our tent has been used extensively and tested by our two young children who at times can be a little heavy handed but it remains completely intact. The only criticism, as with other reviewers, is the weight of the poles. On our last trip I found myself envying people with fibreglass poles until, helping someone else put up their tent in strong winds a fibreglass pole was snapped in half rendering their tent useless. Perhaps the extra weight of steel is not such a problem.

A very stable tent! This is the perfect tent to handle all weather conditions unless very extreme! and I mean very extreme! The trapezium pole construction is the best I have come across, rigid even when its not guyed down! Never had any problems with this tent .Thanks to Mal at our local camping shop for his help and advice. When I say extreme take a force 4 gale next to a river. And all it does is rip a few eyelets out of your front porch. That's a damned good tent! Only let down? The weight of the poles. Buy it you will be happy camping. Split the pole bags though!

Excellent tent - very pleased. I'd agree with other reviews about pitching time. However, because of the rigid poles, it does go up straight very easily. Tip - make sure the inner is round the right way as there are pins for the front canopy poles on one side not the other!

Only downside to the robust construction is that the pole bag is very heavy and we split ours into another bag.

Good for longer stays although we still use our old smaller tent for 1-2 nights.

It is a large tent, so make sure site pitches are big enough.

Superb tent - plenty of room, first time we put it up took about 40 mins - 2nd time 30 mins - getting better each time.Legs are very heavy -- but the tent when up is so sturdy.Good to have the porch which we use for the galley, still not used it to its full potential yet, cant wait.

Fantastic tent. Sleeps eight very comfortably, loads of head room in every part of the tent, large spacious porch area. We had a long table and a picnic table in the entrance and still had plenty of room. Takes about 30/40 mins to pitch. Best to do the black poles first. Need to pitch the inner first and then the fly sheet, 2 steel poles go on the outside for the porch area. Brilliant in bad weather, gale force winds etc. Back doors open when weather hot, so stays cool.
