1 Reviews of the Aspen 4L
By: Bridgeywidge Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2022 Rating:
I have hankered after a weekender with a built-in porch that has sides, a flat threshold and blackout bedrooms. I bought this during the cold dark non-camping months but until now, had not pitched it. I had begun to have 'post purchase dissonance'after realising just how big it is. When there's only me or maybe two, and I'm the pitcher, it's not really viable which is a pity as it is 'a good tent' from first impressions.
I have to say the tent is still a virgin - not been slept with - although it has all been pitched and checked.
It's a 4-berth blackout bedroomed, 5 sectioned tunnel tent in polyester fabric with a SIG, fibre-glass poles and attached front porch with sides.
The living area is particularly spacious - a real party tent - with room for a table and 4 chairs which isn't often the case. When staying in is the new going out due to bad weather, this tent will be really comfortable. There's a side door/window with mozzie net, plus 3 other windows with toggle-up curtains.
At the front, two side windows and a wide door, featuring the aforementioned fold-down/flat threshold. I love those, so sensible. The front porch is not huge but benefits from those full length sides for wind and rain and even sun protection. It's nice to sit out at night with a little cosiness.
Bedroom-wise, the inner has a PU groundsheet which gives some stability, and clips, toggles to attach to the fly. The chamber can be divided into two with a toggleable curtain if needed. The bedroom doors are single sking - but with a small ventilation/mozzie net at the top. There are ventilation panels to each side also. A wide covered vent is at the rear of the flysheet.
There are points to hang lanterns and a cable, plus access for EHU etc. There is a lot of ventilation and the door/window has lots of zips for lots of options!
It comes in a soft teal blue with grey and lime-green webbing and edging, a nice change from green and softer than some blues one sees. Lots of accessorising options if you're that way inclined.
The tent has 5 poled sections with attached mesh which apparently helps with wind resistance and spreads load.
The bag is an OK size although I'm having to wait to put it back in all together as the poles won't currently fit in with the canvas. Blame my technique - there's a lot of canvas to roll and fold. It comes with pegs of course, but I've not opened those, using my own to avoid dirtying.
It felt stable and very spacious and would suit a longer stay as well as a weekend if there is more than just one putting it up or striking as it took me more time than I would want on my own. BUT I did put it up solo without too much hassle once I'd secured the front. Way easier than our Outwell which really does need a helper.
It's civilised camping and good for the usual British summer. Inside for damp or cool, outside for sun, porch for a little protection and somewhere to hang damp coats if necessary.
N.B. The Aspen 4L is very similar to the Castle Pines 4L. The only differences I can spot, are that the Aspen has a HH of 4000 compared to the CP's 6000, whilst the CP's bedrooms have mozzie net door options and an organiser pocketed bit between. Other than that, it's a bit heavier by about 2kgs.

Manufacturer's Description
The Aspen 4L is a spacious, easy to pitch, family tunnel tent, offering you a comfortable living and sleeping area in the great outdoors. Multiple entrances offer easier entry and exit in inclement conditions. The Aspen™ 4L has a generous and bright living area in addition to the spacious porch with plenty of space for dining together or storing camping equipment and bags. The tents outer fabric is fire retardant and for extra security, the zipper stoppers on the tent doors ensure that zips are always within easy reach in the event of an emergency, even for children. Heavy rain is no match for the polyester flysheet which has a hydrostatic head of 4000mm as well as fully taped seams, this combined with the tough, integrated polyethylene groundsheet ensures a dry and bug-free interior. The flysheet is also treated with Coleman’s UVGuard™ providing SPF 50 protection from the sun’s rays. Additional features include barrier free access to ensure easy movement in and out of the tent, extra large bedrooms for a great nights sleep and convenient cable openings in the tent wall that allow easy accessibility to a power source outside the tent.
