8 Reviews of the Bordeaux 6 Select SG

We bought this tent in 2008 (2007 model in sale) and we definitely made the right choice. We have spent a couple of week long holidays in it as well as several weekends. After a little practice two of us can get the tent pitched and pegged in about an hour and this is with two small children 'helping'. Our recent camping trip was a week on the cliff top on the south west side of the Isle of Wight where the tent stood up to winds of around 40mph and heavy rain with no problems at all (several other tents were severely damaged), other people on the site commented at how sturdy it was. The large living area is large enough to take our camp kitchen/cooker, table and chairs and still have room for our kids to play in bad weather. The front canopy is great although we do remove this in strong winds to avoid damage. The sown in groundsheet is great as we have very little draft coming through and the windows are plentiful so you avoid the closed in feeling whilst sitting in the tent. I would recommend the carpet with this tent just for the extra comfort. Another plus is that with a choice of three entrances you can avoid the wind/rain blowing in whatever direction it is. We have had no problems with any of the poles or water leaking in and after 7 uses the tent is as good as new, looking forward to many more years in it!

Bought this tent as we saw one in Dorset and despite originally wanting an Outwell went for this as it offered the best of both worlds with the front detachable porch.
Used it for 2 weeks in Cornwall and 2 weekends away locally last year (2009) and although it is heavy and needs two to put up it is the best we have seen on the sites visited. Although there is only the two of us and the dog and 2 guinea pigs! We have more than enough room as we do not put the second bedroom up and use the area for storage. Although we have taken family away for the weekend and accommodated 5 with ease.
Bought the footprint and carpet this year and this made a world of difference as it was warmer underfoot.
Spent a week on a coastal site in Dorset this year and despite a couple of days of torrential rain and high winds we only experienced a couple of leaking seams. That said it does like to flap in the wind and we always take the little poles for the window vents out.
In Dorset saw most couples were using smaller easier to put up tents which we thought was a good idea, so went out and bought a second hand one. Trouble was spent all weekend comparing the two and have decided to sell the little one and use the big one all the time.
Would I recommend it, definitely

Although heavy and extremely large we have used our Bordeaux numerous times with the 4 of us (2 adults 2 kids).
Very spacious and light we have no problem putting the tent up now, normally takes about three quarters of an hour with the 2 adults, although I cannot fix the bedrooms inside as I am only 5'4' and cannot reach, but hubby does this.
One of the best family tents that I have owned, no leaks, stood up to wind when camping previously.
The only disadvantages I have encountered are that I have trouble moving the pole bag on my own and some campsites will try to charge you more due to the length (6.3m).
Due to the size I actually have 2 tents - this one and a smaller one for when I go camping with the kids on my own - so I have the best of both worlds!

Bought this tent this year (end of season bargain). Have used twice in two months - both times have experienced rain, during which several seams leaked during torrential rain showers - these were reinforced by myself on a recent trip to Somerset, but more sprung leaks!
It is VERY difficult for a couple with a young daughter to put up, due to its weight and height, but once we had figured out a workable way of erecting (don't follow the instructions, find your own way), went well.
On a trip to Somerset this weekend, we were were exposed to extremely high speed winds, we were told (after the occasion) that they were forecasting gusts of up to 60-65mph! We found that the tent did not stand up to such gusts! In fact, the extension came unzipped several occasions, leaving the front pole exposed to winds, on attempting to guy this, the pole buckled under the strength of the wind = holiday over. Packing up the tent contents, daughter and dog in very gusty winds and torrential rain is not easy. When the tent was nearly empty, the tent simply got blown loose form guy and peg points (they were still in the ground) and got airborne and flew 200ft into another field.
The tent did not have enough peg points on the ground sheet, allowing wind underneath, the vented windows allow air into the tent whether required / desired not. This tent simply acted as a rather large wind trap, which turned a cheap (ish) holiday into a rather expensive one!

We loved the spaciousness when we bought it, but having pitched and packed once we realise the mistake we have made. It is far too big (described as an aircraft hanger by the site owners) for two 'smallish' adults to erect without extra hands and the weight of the tent & steel poles is extremely heavy. Packing away, although quite quick, we found it impossible to get it back in the bag. The good side is the living accommodation which is excellent and the tent did stand up well to a very heavy downpour, but the weight, awkwardness at pitching and putting away dampened the weekend more than the rain. Kids loved it, but they didn't have to do the hard work! Now looking for something simpler and less heavy to suit the 5 of us.

Absolutely fab! Originally wanted the Vango Nile 800, but were offered Bordeaux at a bargain £150 as last years model and end of season etc.
Just spent two days in the Gower where we were hit with 30/40 mph gales and driving rain to the extremes. We watched others packing away and leaving as their tents lifted in the high winds, but our Bordeaux stood firm, taking all that mother nature could throw at her (I think its a woman, just for the sheer determination factor [:D] Two adults, two teenagers (one of which is 5'10'') and two big dogs all managed to find our own space in this tent The additional annex with seperate ground sheet meant we had a wet entrance to leave wellies & coats etc.
Only litte niggle was the drips from the inside ties, but this is when the weather reached its worst and the tent was taking a real battering but they really only were drips. I'm going to reinforce the water proofing on these joints for next weekend, when we are going to use our trusty bordeaux again (hopefully we will be giving the opportunity to use the sun canopy next time [;0]

We bought this last year (sales) but only used it for the first time last weekend. We had a four man dome vango before and found it rather too intimate for rainy days with the kids and dog.
It took Mrs Beetroot and I about an hour start to finish to put it up. It is a great size and unlike the experience above we found the footprint not too large for the pitch size. We went with many other kids and parents and all were impressed by the Bordeaux size and layout. The steel poles, although increasing weight, give a sturdy feel to the tent.
I was amazed also at being able to pack away in half an hour and fit the tent into the bag provided. The first time in 3 tents I have accomplished this!
We did do a weekend and intend to do more. It is a lot more effort to put up than the small dome tent but we believe the benefits make it worthwhile.
On the minus side the bedrooms width do make it impossible to get x2 single mattresses in a bedroom and you cant configure to 2 bedrooms making one larger. We bought those 2in 1 mattresses and this seems to get around it but the designers should really research these details a little better so the chioce is with the customer.

We bought this tent thinking 'big room for big fun filled family!'. We were soon to learn that BIG means hard to find commercial campsites with large enough pitches to house the Bordeaux. In the end we had to settle for a more remote campsite with unrestricted pitch area. This is definitely a family tent for those wishing to stay on a more traditional open plan campsite, such as in a field. On the pitching side, the Bordeaux is not as easy as it seems to erect. Despite following the instructions to the letter, pitching the Bordeaux is a major 2 man job and takes a lot of time - making it far from a quick weekend away tent! The bedroom compartments, although shown as doubles, only take a double air bed: so if you have teenagers, for example, sharing a room they must also be willing to share a double airbed as 2 single air beds do not fit - so be warned! On the plus side, the living area is magnificent and spacious and ideal for housing a complete family on a rainy stay-in-the-tent-and-play-board-games type of day. If you plan to be out and about most of the time, and do not intend to spend much time in the tent, then the Bordeaux is too large and is not worth the effort and time it takes to erect the thing, and the small sized sleeping areas!
